The group features an Ashland High School graduate who attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. Rogue Valley band Squirrel Soup Duo will open the show. Food will be available from Sultan's Delight. Tickets cost $8, $5 for students, and can be purchased at Music Coop, 268 E. Main St., or at the door. Frankie Hernandez' Birthday Bash Trumpeter and guitarist Frankie Hernandez — along with drummer Oscar Matallana of Buckle Rash and bass player Jacob Ackerman — will perform original, soul and funk-infused rock at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Lounge South, 66 Pioneer St., Ashland. Hernandez and another Rogue Valley songwriter, Bret Levick, have written songs — "Only the Dead Sleep Well" and "Birthday Cake" — that are receiving air play around the country. The cover is $5.  Kitka The eight-woman choral ensemble will sing traditional harmonies from Ukraine, Russia, the Balkans, Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia and other Eastern European countries at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Unitarian Fellowship, 87 Fourth St., Ashland. Tickets cost $25 in advance and can be purchased at www.stclairevents.com or Music Coop at 268 E. Main St. Tickets will cost $28 at the door, $10 for ages 12 through 17. Kids 11 and younger get in free. 'The Lion in Winter' Playwright James Goldman's tale of lust for power follows King Henry II and his three sons: Richard, Geoffrey and John. The king wants his homeland united after his death, but tension over the empire's inheritance begin to emerge. Camelot Theatre's production previews with a benefit for The Amigo Club at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15. Tickets cost $25. A low-priced preview will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, with tickets at just $12. Other shows are set for 8 p.m. Thursdays through Fridays and 2 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 9. The Schneider Museum of Art Selections from PORTLAND2014: A Biennial of Contemporary Art, an exhibit that surveys Oregon artists who are defining and advancing the contemporary arts landscape, will run through Dec. 6 at The Schneider Museum of Art on the Southern Oregon University campus, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Curator Amanda Hunt visited nearly 50 studios and reviewed more than 300 entries before selecting 15 Oregon artists to participate in the exhibit. These artists include up-and-coming as well as established professionals who work in a variety of media. Most are based in Portland, Salem or Eugene.
