Employee vehicles line both curbs in the Railroad District, while visitors vie for spots in the downtown and Lithia Park lots. Old-timers remember when B Street hardly ever had a stranger's car parked in front of the house. Now the lettered and numbered streets are packed nose to stern with transportation every day. It is fixin' to get worse. On March 17, the City Council may approve more lodging in areas outside the commercial core, resulting in up to several hundred new traveler's accommodations in R1 and SF1 zones. Those visitors won't walk into town, it's too far and the streets are too steep. They'll drive downtown, and add to the existing problem of "Where Do We Park?" Parking is everyone’s concern. All citizens interested in curbing the number of strangers' cars parked in front of their houses need to tell the City Council to vote no on traveler's accommodations in R1 and SF1 zones. M.E. We live across the street from the sanctuary and have never entertained the notion of being afraid of the lions. We love being serenaded by them in the mornings. We were given a tour and saw first-hand the love for these animals. These lions are not a threat. Humans are the threat. Lions sleep 20 hours or so day. As far as I am concerned, I would rather hear the lions than the noise of high-density housing, along with increased traffic, increased incidences of tagging and general disregard for private property. Keep the lions and invite a small area of Africa into your home. Sybille Jones, Phoenix Expand diversity I take note of several instances of what the theater world calls OSF’s “colorblind” casting. This seems to involve, in the main, African American persons in roles conventionally played by Caucasians. If, indeed, OSF intends a truly diverse panoply of actors, perhaps we will see Asians, Latinos and identifiable Middle Easterners also cast in these roles. The advantages to diversity are self-evident, but another benefit would be to alleviate black actors’ impression they are being pandered to.
