Lois passed away January 31, 2015, in Ashland, Ore. She attended public schools in Bakersfield and studied art at UC Berkeley. In 1942 she left Berkeley to marry her high school sweetheart, Roy Mathew Gunsolus, an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and a carrier-based fighter pilot in the Pacific theater. After the war they lived in many places with the Navy, including Guam; Kodiak, Alaska; and Seattle. Their son, Roy Mathew Gunsolus III, was born in 1944, and daughter, Skye Gunsolus, was born in 1949. After their military career, they initially lived in Seattle, then settled in Bakersfield near their parents. Following the death of her husband Roy in 1998, Lois moved to Ashland to be near her daughter, and lived at Mt. View Retirement Residence. At Mt. View, she met Air Force Col. (ret.) Walter Wilson, and they married in 2001. They enjoyed 12 happy years together until Walt's death in 2013. Lois was gifted at drawing and painting as well as fiber arts, and was active artistically as long as her vision allowed. Due to retinitis pigmentosa, her field of vision began narrowing in her teens, and she became legally blind by her mid-30s. Lois is survived by her daughter, Skye Gunsolus Sugar (David) of Ashland; son, Roy Gunsolus (Barbara) of Seattle; grandchildren, Rob, Turi, Kari, Alec, and Breyanna; and five great-grandchildren. All are grateful to the wonderful caregivers who assisted and were friends to Lois, and to the Ashland Community Hospital Home Health and Hospice teams. Memorial contributions may be made to Ashland Home Health and Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church of Ashland. A memorial service will be held March 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Mt. View (now Brookdale Senior Living), 548 N. Main St., Ashland.
