Wagner, Maloney lead SOU tennis to victory Bridget Wagner, Kristin Maloney and Heather Virell triumphed in both singles and doubles play Saturday to lead the Southern Oregon University women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Albertson College of Caldwell, Idaho. The match was moved from SOU to the Southern Oregon Tennis Club in Medford at the midway point after rain forced a stoppage of play. Virell and Megan Loeding won the final six games of their doubles match to defeat Albertson's Kathy Taylor and Whitney Gibbon. The victory improved SOU's record to 6-3. The Raiders are off until March 24, when they will compete in the Hope International at Fullerton, Calif. Track and Field At Arcata, Calif., Southern Oregon University junior sprinter Keith Lawson had a productive day in the four-school Humboldt Shamrock Classic on Saturday. Lawson won two individual events - the 100-meter dash (11.15) and the triple jump (44-feet, 7 1/2-inches) - and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay team. Other teams competing were host Humboldt State, Oregon Tech and San Francisco State. Southern Oregon's Kelala Poumpay placed second in the 100 (11.28), fourth in the 200 (22.79) and ran on the winning short relay and on the third-place 4x400 relay. Other members of the Raiders winning short relay team were Ken Hiler and Jon Hill, while the 4x400 relay team also had Hiler, Danny Hanes and Jeremy Klegseth. The Raiders received victories from Hill in the long jump (22-1) and Joe Sheire in the 400 intermediate hurdles (55.0). Jeff Bentley placed second in the javelin (191-1). Nick Bakke of Ashland, who transferred from Oregon to Oregon Tech this year, won the javelin with a throw of 196-1. In women's, the Raiders picked up victories from Kendra McGrath (100 hurdles, 16.44), Concha Bautista (hammer throw, 124-4) and Brook Jaentsch (high jump, 5-2). Next up for SOU is the Oregon Preview meet, March 22 in Eugene.
