True enough, but swindlers sometimes do. Enron pioneered the field of energy futures. With the techniques of international money-laundering, Houston executives turned a mid-sized corporation into a behemoth. Phil Gramm, Texas senator and husband of an Enron executive, wrote legislation to protect their offshore hi-jinks. Enron was the biggest donor to the richest campaign ever. For good measure, Ken Lay gave $10,000 to stop the Florida recount. Enron, Lay, and CEO Skilling paid another $300,000 for the inauguration. Mission accomplished. Enron collapsed. Its executives, including many who joined the administration, are fabulously wealthy. Millions of investors, who received 18 cents on the dollar, gave their pensions to a few con artists. In Oregon, utility customers are still paying. Mr. Lowry knows the difference between a business and a swindle, as does the White House where Enron exiles are now pumping up Halliburton. Not content with bribery and gas-gouging in Iraq, Halliburton even steals lunch money from the troops. When caught they simply "give it back." Our leadership is playing honest citizens for suckers. Almost everyone loses when business is confused with thievery. Jackson County residents surrender far more homeless cats and dogs to local shelters than there are homes for. Please help end this avoidable tragedy by telling your friends, coworkers, or neighbors who have unaltered pets to consider calling SNYP and making sure their cat or dog doesn't add to the pet overpopulation problem. SNYP is waiting to help. All it takes is one phone call to 541.858.3325 or a visit to www.spayneuter.com.
