Greensprings highway to reopen Friday Paving is expected to begin early Thursday, Sept. 1, on a stretch of Highway 66 closed for repairs, with reopening of one lane of the road expected by the end of the day. [Photo Courtesy of Green Springs Inn] Thursday Aug 31, 2017 at 6:20 PM Aug 31, 2017 at 6:20 PM Local report One lane of Highway 66 at milepost 12 southeast of Ashland is due to reopen as scheduled Thursday, removing the need for Ashlanders to take a lengthy detour via Howard Prairie Lake to reach Green Springs Inn, Tub Springs, Pinehurst, a number of hiking trails in the heart of the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument (including the Pacific Crest Trail), and the southerly route from Ashland to Klamath Falls. The road has been closed since Aug. 3 so the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) could repair a slide that reduced the highway to a single lane. The $700,000 slide repair was planned for summer 2018 but a wet spring led to concerns the roadway may collapse sooner, pushing the project schedule up. Detour signs are expected to come down by 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a web post by Green Springs Inn. For more information, go to www.greenspringsslide.org.
