Juniors Haley Varley and Miranda Gillaspie received conference and NAIA Region I player-and pitcher-of-the-week kudos, respectively, after leading the 22nd-ranked Raiders (16-4) to a 9-0 week, including a perfect 5-0 effort at last weekend's conference kickoff tournament. Varley, the reigning conference MVP, led the team with a .517 effort from the plate in the nine games, built a nine-game hit streak and elevated her season batting clip from .200 to a robust .361. A school-record four of the former North Medford High all-stater's nine stolen bases, along with a season-high three hits, came in a 7-5 Raider come-from-behind triumph against league rival Western Baptist. Gillaspie, the staff ace, lowered her season ERA over a full point to 1.62 by going 5-0 last week, including 3-0 at the conference event. The Clackamas Community College transfer and former Redmond (Ore.) High all-state performer yielded only 16 hits and three earned runs in 31.2 innings while striking out 30 batters. Gillaspie tossed complete-game shutouts against Patten (a one-hitter) and Oregon Tech (a three-hitter). Southern Oregon puts its 10-game win streak on the line this afternoon at University Field in Ashland against Patten University.
