Billings project gains near-equal number of supporters, detractors A golf course and residential development approved for North Ashland draws mixed reviews, a Tidings poll shows. After a technical glitch kept the online poll running for an unprecedented two weeks, 614 people had their say on the question: "The upcoming development of the Billings property includes a golf course and a 73-home subdivision. Is this a good thing for Ashland?" The project was approved last month by the Ashland Planning Commission. A majority, 281 people or 46 percent, said "Neither project will benefit Ashland," but a near-equal number, 227 people or 37 percent, picked "Both projects will benefit Ashland." Seventy-three people or 12 percent decided on "Golf course is a good idea, don't need the houses," while 33 people or 5 percent said "Subdivision is a good idea, nix the golf course." This week's poll question, posted Saturday, is: "The time has passed for making New Year's resolutions. What were your choices?" The Tidings' online poll is an unscientific measurement of public opinion and only reflects the views of those who choose to participate. Its sole purpose is to provide greater public input on a variety of issues.
