--> --> Hill tops poll in governor's race Ashland Daily Tidings Democrat Jim Hill is the top choice for voters in the November gubernatorial race, a Daily Tidings poll shows. Hill was the top voter-getter this week among 194 people who logged on to www.dailytidings.com to participate in the weekly online poll. Internet users were asked,"If the general election was held today, your vote for governor goes to ..." Hill grabbed 31 percent of the vote, or 61 people, while fellow Democrat Bev Stein took second with 28 percent (54 people). Continuing on the theme, Democrat Ted Kulongoski gained 14 percent (28 people) for third place. The top three Republicans in the race to replace Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber came in fourth, fifth and sixth, according to the poll. Kevin Mannix had 20 people or 10 percent; Jack Roberts managed 17 votes or 9 percent; and Ron Saxton garnered only 14 votes (7 percent). The Tidings new poll question, posted Saturday, is: "The Ashland City Council has delayed a decision for 90 days on an ordinance protecting trailer park tenants. When members resume the issue in August, should they pass it or reject the ordinance?" The Tidings weekly Internet poll is an unscientific measurement of public opinion.
