Patriotism views: A mixed bag One in three people feels a greater sense of patriotism this Fourth of July holiday, a Tidings poll shows. In steady voting this week, 330 people logged on to www.dailytidings.com to answer the question "Considering the events of 9/11 and the war in Iraq, how do you feel about patriotism this Fourth of July?" The highest vote-getter was "I'm more patriotic than ever," with 108 people or 33 percent making that their choice. A close second, however, was "I'm not as patriotic as I used to be," with 77 people or 23 percent picking that poll option. Sixty-seven people or 20 percent said they "felt the same," while 22 people or 7 percent chose "I feel a little more patriotic." Finally, 56 people or 17 percent decided "I've never been patriotic." This week's poll question, posted Saturday, is: "Do you support a congressional inquiry into claims of Iraq having weapons of mass destruction?" The Tidings weekly poll is an unscientific measurement of public opinion and only reflects the views of those who choose to participate. Its sole purpose is to provide greater public input on a variety of issues.
