'All the World's a Stage' During the month of March at the Foray Gallery, Scott Sherman will be exhibiting a retrospective of paintings based upon plays, celebrations and events found around the globe. From travels spanning Europe, the Orient and North America, Sherman has employed his unique visual storytelling sense in portraying the passion and spectacle of the world theater. Experiencing the magnificence of venues that range from the street festivals of Japan to the stages of Paris and Los Angeles, he has undertaken to create a series of works which are illuminated with a vibrant impressionistic flair. His paintings can be seen during the month of March at the Foray Gallery, 500 A Street #1, in downtown Ashland. Scott received his formal artistic training at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. More recently, he has refined his oil painting skills while working as a senior concept designer and art director at Walt Disney Imagineering, where he worked with fine painters and instructors including John Asaro, Dan McCaw, Verne Wilson and Harry Carmean. His focus at that time, however, was on illustration rather than fine art. As a result, much of their message remained more or less dormant for years. "It was at Disney that I rediscovered my love of oil painting and found my artistic style," Sherman says. "There, I had the opportunity to study with some of our finest painters. Disney provided weekly workshops as well as frequent seminars and lectures with artists that included Tom Gilleon, Dan Goozee, Steve Huston, Ron Pekar, Carolyn Anderson, Sheila Reiman, Ned Mueller, William Reese, Jacques Valin, and Glenn Vilppu."
