--> --> Opposition to the Tidings Web poll The editors who came up with the Opinion Poll question of the week - 'which school would you close?' - are no better than gawkers who stumble upon another's tragedy, and rubberneck rather than add a hand to help. This poll can be nothing other than divisive and destructive, and it's equivalent to tossing a can of kerosene upon an already hot blaze. I urge readers to form an educated opinion on any of the many issues facing our struggling district and express them, but please don't buy into a senseless poll that is serving only to create more grief and hostility in an already charged atmosphere. If the editors at the Tidings do not understand the turmoil and anguish in the school community enough to see how this poll hurts everybody, then what trust can we put in their perceptions on the developing educational picture? The job of a newspaper is to report the news, not create it, and by propagating a thoughtless, tasteless poll like this, the Tidings is manipulating a volatile situation.
