Submitted photos The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, under the spirited direction of Benjamin Simon, invites your entire family to join them for “an evening under the stars with stars-in-the-making.” The Elizabethan Stage of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is the setting for an extraordinary concert by talented musicians of high school age or younger who have toured the globe to the delight and amazement of audiences who marvel at their professional sound. Since its founding in 1966 by the late William Whitson, the PACO has culminated nearly every season with a concert in Ashland, where it has consistently received enthusiastic acclaim. Benjamin Simon, in his third season as music director and conductor, brings to this award-winning youth ensemble his energy, experience and passion for excellence. The program features a variety of music from baroque to modern, including Tchaikovsky’s Serenade in C for Strings. Cellist Dahna Rudin, a graduate of PACO with an international career spanning three continents, will perform the Suites for Cello and String Orchestra by Lou Harrison. Peter Lemberg, oboist with premier Bay Area ensembles including the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, and Greer Ellison, an active West Coast flute soloist, will join the orchestra for the Concerto da Camera by Honegger. The performance is on Monday at 8:30 p.m. on the Elizabethan Stage in Ashland. Tickets are $12/$8 for students, seniors, and members of the OSF, Chamber Music Concerts and JPR Listeners’ Guild. For tickets and more information, call the Oregon Shakespeare Festival box office at 482-4331. In case of rain, the concert will be held the Angus Bowmer Theatre with festival seating.
