The sessions are intended for new supervisors and supervisors looking for an update on changing employment laws. Each year, BOLI fields more than 20,000 calls from employers seeking guidance on regulatory issues. The seminars will feature subject matter experts ready to answer questions and provide insight on topics of interest to employers large and small. “We want to be a resource for Southern Oregon businesses and organizations,” said Oregon Labor and Industries Commissioner Brad Avakian. “Experts from our technical assistance program will answer people’s questions and provide important tools for employers so that they can concentrate on growing their operations.”  Attendance at the seminars will be limited, so employers are encouraged to pre-register. The seminar is pre-approved for HRCI credits. The first seminar, titled "Wage and Hour Law: What Employers Need to Know" will include information on both federal and state wage and hour laws that affect employers. It will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Southern Oregon University, Stevenson Union, Room 319. The second seminar is titled "Dealing with a Difficult Employee" and will include information that employers need to know about common employee problems and how to effectively deal with them legally and fairly. It will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 1564 Clover Lane, Ashland. Register by calling 971-673-0824 or go to http://www.oregon.gov/BOLI and click on "Attend Employer Seminars" in the lefthand rail.
