Guild member bakeries in 26 states and one Canadian province will take part in the open house, which is part of the Guild’s 2015 event series, "Revival: What’s Old Is New." The open house was conceived as a way to bring communities to their bakeries, as well as to champion the cause for locally made bread. SunStone will be open for visiting from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Known for their organic sourdough breads, pastries and pretzels, SunStone Bakery is a a family owned and operated bakery, built in a small cottage in backyard of the Carder family’s home. Pretzels and pastries will be being coming out of the oven from 8 to 9 a.m., with bread production starting at 9. SunStone Artisan Bakery is at 383 Avery St. in Ashland, Oregon. Reservations are appreciated. The bakery will be in production during the open house, with deliveries being whisked down to the Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market on Oak Street, so guests are asked to keep the driveway clear for deliveries. The Bread Bakers Guild of America said in a news release that it led the bread renaissance that occurred during the evolution of high-quality artisan foods in the 1990s, a time when Americans began to learn about crusty, well-fermented hearth breads, flaky laminated croissants, and Danishes. Since then, The Guild has dedicated itself to promoting artisan baking education.
