What goes on here and can I still bring in a roll of old-fashioned film? Yes, we do it all, from the old traditional silver halide prints to anything digital. We can use old negatives or deteriorated old prints or get pics out of your digital camera or laptop and turn them into a stack of prints that you hold in your hand or 20- by 30-inch mounted wall art or a print 100 feet long. It’s important to get pics out of your computer or phone because they can crash. Putting them on real photo paper is important because it lasts. The oldest prints from 170 years ago are still with us and still look good. You look very industrial. Do you serve someone with just one roll of film? We have almost a million dollars worth of machines in here and we keep getting the latest techonolgy. We have seven employees, plus my mom. Yes, we still will do one roll of film and do it the old way, the wet process. We’ll do one small print for 29 cents. An 11 by 14 metal print, infused with polyester, is $39.99. The 8 by 12-inch iron-wrap laminated pictures are $29.99, both ready for hanging. We can PhotoShop as you wish, fix old damage, pull a good smile off one pic and put it on another. Tell us about yourself My mother and I were driving around Oregon 23 years ago and had lunch in Ashland. I fell in love with the town. She saw a photo shop for sale, priced way below what you’d see in San Jose, where I lived. I bought it. We’ve struggled. When I arrived, there were four camera stores and seven photo labs in the valley. With all the (digital) changes, we’re the only one left, adapted to the whole industry. We were the first store in Oregon that adapted to digital imagery.   Who could foresee this world? It is amazing what we can do now. More pics are shot in one day now worldwide than were shot in the first 150 years of photography. It’s fast. You can drop film and pick up prints here in half an hour. I sell film, the old sizes, even 120. You can email me your digital files and come pick up any size prints and wall art. We send about a third of our product out of the valley, all over the world. We pride ourselves that we can do anything you want to an image, all with one stop in one place, instead of going to several shops. John Darling is a freelance writer living in Ashland.
