Frank Lloyd Wright house reaches new address SILVERTON (AP) - Oregon's only house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright completed its three-day, 30-mile crawl Sunday to its new address in the Oregon Garden. The Gordon House, now sitting amid an oak grove in the 60-acre botanical complex, will become the Pacific Northwest's only Wright house open to the public. "I love it. Everybody loves it," said Delma Sprauer, an Oregon Garden volunteer. "It's amazing how much people know about it." The largest piece of the house - the 70-ton, 69-foot-long upper floor - began its journey Friday, a week before a March 15 deadline to remove it from the property of David and Carey Smith on the Willamette River south of Wilsonville. In September, the Smiths paid $1.1 million for the vacant house and 22 acres of farmland once owned by Conrad and Evelyn Gordon. The Smiths planned to demolish the old house to make way for a new home. The plan triggered protests from admirers of the late, legendary U.S. architect. In November, the Smiths agreed to donate the house to the Chicago-based Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy, which is selling it to the Oregon Garden Foundation. For the past 100 days, workers have raced against the clock to prepare the house for the move.
