Each month, a senior student from the Ashland High School (AHS) is so honored. Anna enjoys a very active leadership career at AHS. Included in her achievements are: instrumental in bringing SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving) back to the school after a 19-year hiatus, participant on the state championship speech and debate team during her sophomore year, and deep involvement in the Advanced Jazz Band, winning the prestigious Louis Armstrong Jazz award. She has also been on the American Cancer Society Relay for Life team, is a Church Youth Group participant and a Resident Outdoor School Councilor. Anna has worked summers at the YMCA sports camp, and she enjoys basketball and softball. Academically, Anna sports a 3.99 GPA. She takes classes such as AP Chemistry, English Composition, Government and Pre-Calculus. She has been a National Honors Society student, and an Honor Roll Student, during her sophomore, junior and senior years. Her strong study habits will serve her well as she pursues an education in Environmental Engineering at one of several possible colleges or universities. The Student of the Month receives an award certificate and a $50 savings bond. During the month of May, 2007, two of the nine monthly winners for the current school year will be further honored with a $1,000 college scholarship. This is called the "Tommy Laird Kiwanis Scholarship." For questions about Kiwanis call 488-8065.
