She encourages us to see that it is not only our right but our duty to consciously inquire into the things that affect us, our lifestyles and our environment. As a growing and learning person, I have come to realize that our lifestyle choices have a big impact on the environment. It is my hope for the well-being of our future generations that we value and practice sustainability. I would strongly encourage my fellow Americans to incorporate eco-friendly decisions into their everyday life. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Whether it’s starting a compost pile, buying recycled products or trading in a gas guzzler for a more fuel efficient car, I urge you to help keep the planet healthy. Even small changes — a fluorescent light bulb, a cloth shopping bag, or buying local, organic foods — can make a big difference. Makana Green Ashland Council ignored its committee Apparently, the Ashland City Council can't swallow the advice of its own Ashland Fiber Network options committee. Could their message have been any clearer, that the debt will keep mounting if AFN is not sold? I find the argument for the Open Carrier Model quite horrible. If the intent is just to pay off the present debt by paying a $12-20 monthly tax for a few years (any other twisted marketing is just putting lipstick on the proverbial pig), that might be a bullet we might have to bite if that were the only alternative. However, making all residents pay for services that are below par with other companies, and services that would become even lower than that over the coming years, by still hanging onto AFN is ridiculous. The real problem is that hanging on to any entity this city is trying to pretend to run as a business is doomed to getting us all into deeper debt. Given present and future technologies, it is too risky to hang onto cable Internet service, just as it is clear now that we lost a lot hanging onto cable TV. Paul Mace has publicly offered the only intelligent solution: Bite the bullet by selling off some city land/assets to pay off this miserable debt. I add that we should do this quickly, before the real-estate bubble bursts. Next time the council has a great idea on how to build such a new city infrastructure, they would be well advised to at least pass it through the voters.
