ASD members gain recognition Ashland Daily Tidings Ashland School Board members Dan Thorndike and Alan De Boer were honored by the University of Oregon's College of Education Alumni Society at a dinner March 22 at the Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford. Thorndike was given the Community Award and De Boer received the Friend of Education Award. The theme for this year's ceremony was "Celebrating People Who Change Lives" with the goal of celebrating individuals and organizations who have enriched our communities. Superintendent Juli Di Chiro praised the two for their on-going commitment to the youth and families in the Ashland School District. "Both men represent the very best of community service and have given countless hours to lead and guide the district's educational program," Di Chiro said. "The community of Ashland has been richly served by both Dan and Alan's commitment to our students." Other honorees at the event include David Willard, Superintendent of the Phoenix-Talent School District, who received the Distinguished Alumni Award; Michael Remick, who received the Educational Excellence Award; and Asante Health Systems, which received the Business/Education Partnership Award.
