--> --> July 17: Ashland Rowing Club victorious By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland Rowing Club scored seven top-three performances Sunday in the U.S. Rowing Southwest Regional Regatta at Lake Natoma near Sacramento, Calif. Taking first place for the club were the women's lightweight four, the men's single scull and the mixed eight. Katie Holden (coxswain), Judith Cope, Merike Wallace, Bennie Sullivan and Mary Perry teamed up to form the gold medal-winning women's lightweight four team, which won the first race of the day. Scott Knox captured the men's single scull and Traci Brander (coxswain), Steve Kiesling, Ben Jordan-Rogers, Andy Baxter, Mike Skibinski, Benie Sullivan, Deb Holden, Judith Cope and Toni Knox formed the winning mixed eight squad. The women's lightweight four used a 250-meter sprint at the finish to clinch the win. The Ashland Rowing Club also picked up three second-place medals and a pair of third-place finishes. Taking second for ARC were Phil Benedetti in the men's single scull and Jim Sims in the men's lightweight single scull, as well as the men's heavyweight eight. Rowing for that crew were Toni Knox (coxswain), Beneditti, Jordan-Rogers, Kiesling, Skibinski, Baxter, Ron Iverson, Paul Oursler and Steve Eadie. Bringing home third place medals for the club were the men's four team and the women's eight. The men's four consisted of Brander (coxswain), Oursler, Jordan-Rodgers, Gary Russo Steve Eadie. The women's eight boat was powered by Holden (coxswain), Cope, Wallace, Patti Ruiz, Holden, Sullivan, Jean Crawford, Cathy Tronquet and Perry. Email your...
