--> --> An epitaph for Ashland comes to us out of the East Anyone watching the direction and increasing pace of change in Ashland has got to be very concerned. (Anyone but those who will not see, such as members of what Eben Fodor calls the Urban Growth Machine in his excellent book, "Better NOT Bigger.") The current National Geographic carries a letter to the editor about a small town on the East Coast. Tomorrow these words could be the epitaph for Ashland: "The town is no longer a quaint little (place). It has become an unaffordable hot spot for the wealthy and elite (of the big city) ... My family has over a hundred years of history in this small town and now is being forced to move for reasons of expense, overcrowding, and discomfort with the influx ... God and country no longer rate here against profit and greed ..." Your action and mine is needed now (letters to the Tidings, pressure on the Mayor and Council, etc.), else a wonderful community will be gone, destroyed by developers and their witting and unwitting allies.
