The mistakes of the administration were frequent, the lies had been exposed for the propaganda they were, and it seemed that America was beginning to see the light. A change for the better could be seen on the horizon, and the entire nation was watching. It would be a pivotal moment in history, depending on its results. I still had faith in my fellow Americans. Ignorance can be fixed, I told myself. But alas, Bush cannot. A sad day it was when America made its decision. George Bush has now been given a mandate by the people to follow through in his promises - the same promises he has broken in the past. A naive education program, too expensive to be realistic, a bad habit of squandering away money we don't have, and a stubborn position on a war with dubious motives are on his top list of priorities for the next four years. But the next four years are trivial compared to the consequences of his actions beyond his reign as president. Our allies will only support us for so long. Soon, America will be isolated not by choice, but because there is no one left to choose from. Obviously learning from our mistakes is too costly, and admitting them is too risky. We've been too busy giving answers to the wrong questions, and when we have to face the aftermath of our choices, where will our answers be then? What will we do when our resources run out? Who will fight the remaining war in Iraq? How long do we have before the world leaves our side? I'm curious to hear the silence of those answers in the future. This was not an election between candidates. It was an election of priorities. America has stated what is important to it, and what can be delayed, but I'm afraid it will be too late when we address the crucial problems ahead. This victory for Bush will carry the seed of future defeats, but I haven't lost all hope. Motivation to change the how our government is being run has increased since the election, because the stakes are higher. We must work harder to ensure that things will still work in the future. So let's get to work.
