Quick Flicks: 'Cinderella,' 'Insurgent' and more Comment By Andrea Honaker The Gaston Gazette DailyTidings.com By Andrea Honaker The Gaston Gazette Posted Apr. 29, 2015 at 8:44 AM By Andrea Honaker The Gaston Gazette Posted Apr. 29, 2015 at 8:44 AM » Social News IN THEATERS “Cinderella” — starring Lily James, Richard Madden, Helena Bonham Carter and Cate Blanchett — is delightful from beginning to end. This exquisite reimagining of the classic fairy tale will please the whole family, with breathtaking costumes, special effects and scenery as extra icing on the cake. Madden, former “Game of Thrones” star, and “Downton Abbey’s” James work their acting magic in the title roles. “Insurgent” — starring Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort and Theo James — is an action-packed, edge-of-your-seat sequel to 2014’s “Divergent.” Where the first film had to spend a lot of time setting up the story, the follow-up really expands upon the plot and characters, even introducing some new ones. This results in a more epic and urgent film-going experience, and the third one can’t come soon enough for me. “The Age of Adaline” — starring Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman and Harrison Ford — is a beautiful tale about learning to love and live. Lively gives a knockout performance, and she’s stunning in her vintage outfits and hairstyles that reflect the decades. While a bit predictable, the film is a captivating and heart-tugging watch. Fans of the romance genre won’t want to miss this while it’s in theaters. ON DVD I was unfamiliar with the story of painter Margaret Keane, but “Big Eyes”(2014) — starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz — made me feel like I had tackled her trials and triumphs with her. With such an intriguing plot and incredible acting, the film is no doubt one of my favorites from 2014. It’s no wonder that Adams’ performance earned her an Oscar win, and Waltz was certainly worthy of his nomination. Andrea Honaker writes for The Gaston (N.C.) Gazette.
