--> --> Western Oregon president resigns MONMOUTH (AP) - Western Oregon University President Betty Youngblood has accepted a job as president of Lake Superior State University in Michigan. Youngblood will replace President Robert Arbuckle, who departs in June 2002. She is expected to stay in Oregon at least until spring, said Jim Adams, a university spokesman. Youngblood, a Michigan native, is Lake Superior University's first woman president. Youngblood "is just a perfect fit for the experience and qualities which the campus community felt were needed to build upon the successes of President Arbuckle," Board of Trustees president Meg Brown said in a statement. Youngblood earned her master's degree and doctorate from the University of Minnesota in 1970. She became president of Western Oregon University in Monmouth in 1995, after serving as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin at Superior. "I look forward, with great enthusiasm, to joining the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and students at Lake Superior State University," she said in a statement Thursday. Youngblood's departure from the 4,700-student WOU comes amid contentious contract negotiations with faculty as the state budget tightens. "It's going to be tough to replace Betty Youngblood," Adams said. "But we'll be looking for another strong leader for this university." Email your...
