--> --> Aug. 22: Donation scam at work in Ashland Ashland Daily Tidings At least two boys described only as "big and possibly high school age" have been going door to door in Ashland seeking donations for the Ashland High football team, though no such fundraiser exists, AHS Athletic Director Jim Nagel said Wednesday. Nagel, who is also the varsity head football coach, said he's received three phone calls from residents claiming they've been approached by the phony fundraisers, including one from a woman who said the boys were "kind of intimidating." Nagel also emphasized that players on his team have not been instructed to seek donations door to door. "The only thing we have is what we call a lift-a-thon," Nagel said, "and they would have paperwork to show for that. And our lift-a-thon is for friends, neighbors and relatives, not door to door." Nagel said anyone approached by AHS football donation seekers are welcome to call the Ashland High athletic office at 482-2377 to verify.
