The two-time defending league champions Raiders (6-14, 5-8) improved to 9-0 all-time at home against the third-place Eagles (12-12, 8-5) and solidified their hold on eighth-place and final playoff slot. Junior guard Camille Porter scored 17 of her team-high 21 points in the high-scoring first half, while freshman point Jenna Ayers accumulated 13 of her 18 points in the second stanza to pace a frisky Raider attack. Northwest senior guard Kristin Boyd amassed a game-high 24 points through 26 minutes before being sidelined with a shoulder injury, but former Cascade Christian star (21 points) and freshman forward Jennifer DeYoung (18 points, 11 rebounds) kept the Eagles within striking distance until the closing seconds. Southern overcame 5-0 and 25-24 deficits for a 50-47 halftime edge and never trailed thereafter, but the Kirkland school used a 7-0 spurt to pull within 80-77 with 2:25 remaining. The Raiders then put down the uprising with back-to-back jumpers from Porter and freshman center Nicholette Le Bel. Northwest shot 52 percent from the floor (33 of 64) and outrebounded SOU 43-34, but the Raiders countered with a season-high 31 field goals, forced 26 turnovers and made 15 of 18 free throws. SOU travels to Portland next weekend to take on Cascade and Warner Pacific. Wrestling At San Francisco, Southern Oregon crowned a champion in Wes Balensifer and runner-up in David O'Brien in placing fifth at the 12-team All-California Invitational Saturday. Balensifer posted a 4-0 record en route to the heavyweight title, scoring a pin to clinch the championship at 2:53. O'Brien went 3-1 on the day to place second, dropping a 15-7 match in the finals. Cal State-Bakersfield won the event with 122 points, followed by Stanford (69.5), Cal State-Fullerton (64.5), Cal-Poly (56) and Southern Oregon (38).
