Grizzlies garner all-star accolades By Joe Zavala Ashland Daily Tidings Ashland High senior post Clint Bryan and senior guard Bryan Clevenger were the Grizzlies' only representatives on the Southern Oregon Conference boys basketball all-star team, released today. Bryan picked up 48 points worth of votes cast by SOC coaches to earn second-team accolades, while Clevenger drew 34 points and third-team honors. Grants Pass post Kory Mahr was named the SOC Player of the Year, and Dennis Murphy of South Medford and Bill Cowell of Grants Pass finished tied in the vote count and took home co-Coach of the Year honors. Bryan and Clevenger led Ashland to a 4-10, sixth-place finish in the SOC, the Grizzlies' best league showing in years. Ashland entered the season having won just one of its previous 28 league contests. The Grizzlies finished 11-13 overall. Other first-teamers included: Andrew Norum, Crater; Ryan Lucas, North Medford; Ryan Fiegi, South Medford; and Jacob Wynn, Klamath Union. Making the SOC all-defensive team were: Mahr; Kerry Hall, Roseburg; Eric Fischer, South Medford; Norum; and Andy Hagert, South Medford. South Medford won the league championship with a 13-1 record, with Grants Pass a close second at 12-2. Both the Panthers and Cavemen will compete in this week's Class 4A State Tournament, which begins Tuesday at Portland's Memorial Coliseum.
