May 31, 2006 Decades of service honored by SOU SOU alumna, professor honored by Zinser Southern Oregon University President Elisabeth Zinser named Rosemary Dunn Dalton as alumna of the year Friday night for her dedicated work in challenging the typical manner in which people think about equality in the Rogue Valley. Returning to SOU to teach as an adjunct professor, this former SOU graduate holds masters degrees in social work and counseling psychology and has been working for social justice in the Rogue Valley for more than 30 years. “I’ve been one of many change agents, and I do believe that working for change is bigger than change itself,” Dunn Dalton said. more ... Like few other issues (abortion might qualify), this problem is profoundly complex, clearly divisive, and does not lend itself to easy CNN sound bite analysis. If there is a middle ground it will be geography not easily reached as positions harden and the rhetoric heats up. As the debate is framed, what is striking is that there is so little discussion about causation. Well, not literally lost. However, “Duke,” a play written some 30 years ago by the well-known comedy writing team of Arne Sultan and Earl Barrett, will finally premiere May 26, at Ashland Middle School Commons. Arne Sultan, whose son Rick Sultan is a local resident and comic actor, was a prolific writer for television and feature films and an Emmy award winner. Artist in Ashland Small movies, big passion Peter Quince, an Ashland video producer, loves talking about his work, a life-long interest but relatively new career that he pursues with his video Storyline Pictures, where he collaborates with Claudia Ballard in producing what he calls “small movies.” LOCAL ENTERTAINMENT Movie: review ‘Da Vinci’ underwhelms at the theater MOVIES: NOW PLAYING Havura hosts class on Judaism and Christianity Beginning Sunday at 7:30 p.m. there will be a six-week historic interfaith study course entitled “Roots and Branches.” The class will consist of Christians and Jews tackling the difficult issues of anti-Semitism, and the future of our shared vision to make the world a better place. The course will answer questions such as: What are the Jewish roots of the “Our father” prayer? What are the Jewish roots of the Eucharist? What did the notions of heaven, salvation, and redemption mean to religious Jews in the first century? What were the causes of Christian anti-Semitism?
