--> --> Up-and-down Blazers down Warriors PORTLAND (AP) - The Portland Trail Blazers are careless and unpredictable one quarter, smooth and dependable the next. Until their injured stars return, it's difficult to tell what kind of team they are. Ruben Patterson scored 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting, and rookie Zach Randolph had all 12 of his in the fourth quarter as the Blazers beat the Golden State Warriors 86-81 Tuesday night. Patterson had his second strong game of the preseason starting in place of injured small forward Scottie Pippen, who has a sore back. Portland also didn't have Rasheed Wallace, who missed his second straight game with a bruised tailbone. "I'd like to see everybody get healthy," said coach Maurice Cheeks, who has one exhibition left - Friday against Memphis - before next Tuesday's season opener at the Los Angeles Lakers. "We'll probably just iron out a few things, and try to get everybody back on the practice floor," Cheeks said. Point guard Damon Stoudamire also got banged up a little, hurting his right knee in the first quarter. "I'll be out there the next game," he said. "We practice too hard to take time off." Randolph scored eight of his team's last 12 points, and his jumper with 28.6 seconds put the Blazers ahead 82-81. Mookie Blaylock's jumper went off the glass at the other end, and Derek Anderson's free throws sealed it with 15.4 seconds left. Randolph seemed to learn on the job in the final period, making 6-of-7 shots and getting into good position for offensive rebounds. "Zach is a battler," Cheeks said. "He does one thing bad, then does another thing bad, then he comes back. He keeps working. You've got to love him. He's a delightful kid." Antawn Jamison and Jason Richardson, Randolph's teammate at Michigan State last season, each scored 19 points to lead the Warriors (3-3). Patterson was by far the best player on the floor for the Blazers, getting eight rebounds and four assists in 37 minutes, his busiest game of the preseason. In his two games as a starter, Patterson has averaged 21 points. "That's what I'm going to bring to this team: energy and playing defense," he said. In the third quarter, Patterson went for a loose ball near the sideline and ended up running on the scorer's table for about 20 feet before he was caught by the Warriors' bench. "That's my game," Patterson said. "I like to hustle, and I like to get the crowd into the game." Shawn Kemp added 16 rebounds, his most since coming to Portland before last season, and Anderson had 15 points for the Blazers (3-3). Warriors center Marc Jackson played his first game since the team retained him by matching Houston's six-year, $24.4 million offer. He was held scoreless on 0-of-4 shooting in eight minutes. "As soon as he got here, the guys had a little talk and talked about things," Golden State coach Dave Cowens said. "It's over, and you get on with life. Hes integrated himself right into the mix." The Warriors went on an early 11-0 run to go ahead 37-24, and the Blazers trailed by 10 when they decided to start playing some defense. They used a full-court press to force two straight turnovers, and a fast-break layup by Patterson ended a quick 7-0 burst. Stoudamire ended the half with a flurry, making a long jumper and then launching a shot from just inside halfcourt that swished at the horn, pulling Portland to 49-46. Email your...
