SOU women stay hot, men complete home sweep ASHLAND - The Southern Oregon women's basketball team won its eighth straight game against a Cascade Conference opponent dating back to last season with a 101-77 victory over Warner Pacific at McNeal Pavilion on Saturday night. SOU (7-7, 4-0 Cascade) remained in a first-place tie atop the loop standings with Oregon Tech and Albertson after using a 28-8 run in its 55-point second half to build a 27-point lead, 78-51, with 10 minutes remaining. The Raiders topped the century mark for the second time this season. Senior all-stars Kara Magee-Arick (25 points, nine rebounds) and Sara Marks (24 points, 10 assists) led SOU's scoring frenzy that featured five players in double figures. Warner Pacific (2-13, 0-3), which led 7-2 in the opening minutes, received a 22-point, three-block performance from sophomore center Shawna Damon, while junior guard Joy Best scored 19 in the Portland school's seventh straight loss to SOU. "We're finally getting back to playing the way we did at the end of last season," Raider head coach Kevin Wilson said. "We're finding different ways to put up big numbers." The Raiders next host Oregon Tech, at 7 p.m. Thursday. Men's Basketball Senior point guard T.J. Caughell capped an all-star weekend with a game-high 24 points in SOU's gritty 72-67 Cascade Conference win over Warner Pacific Saturday night at McNeal Pavilion. Caughell, who scored 17 and was one assist short of a triple-double in Friday night's 78-75 upset of 17th-ranked Cascade, nailed 8 of 14 shots and all seven free throw attempts to help the Raiders (6-10, 2-2) win their fourth straight home game and third overall. The Reedsport High star tallied 15 while helping SOU build a 35-21 halftime edge, but the Knights (10-6, 0-3) utilized a 24-9 rally over the opening nine minutes of the second stanza to take a brief 45-44 lead. SOU took the lead for good with a subsequent 11-4 spurt, and WPC got no closer than three until four seconds left when senior guard Zac Olson converted two foul shots for the final margin. Sophomore forward Travis Elam notched his first career double-double for SOU (10 points, 10 rebounds) to help overcome a 21-point, nine-rebound performance by Knight senior all-star Matt Segrin. Next up for SOU is the most anticipated game of the season - Saturday night's clash with top rival and No. 1-ranked Oregon Tech, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Klamath Falls. Wrestling At Tacoma, Wash., Southern Oregon picked up first places from senior Nolan Harris at 133 pounds and junior Ryan Presta at 157 in Saturday's Pacific Lutheran Open. The victory in the 13-team tournament qualified Presta for the NAIA nationals. The Raiders received third-place performances from Brian Wilson (165), Wes Balensifer (285) and Colin Murphy (141). Freshman Jimmy Grochowsky placed fourth for the Raiders, while Waylon Alsbury (149) and Grant Thompson (197) were fifth. Nine of Southern's 13 wrestlers placed at the event. The Raiders don't hit the mat again until Thursday, when they'll take on Montana State-Northern at Havre, Mont.
