Linda Reid of the city of Ashland Housing Office is one of the panelists. The others are Cindy Dyer of Aging Community Coordinated Enterprises & Supportive Services (ACCESS); Jason Elzy, of the Housing Authority of Jackson County; Denise James, Habitat for Humanity; Josh LeBombard, of the Department of Land Conservation & Development; and Amy Moore of Twin Creeks Real Estate. The conversation is expected to cover access to housing, current housing inventory levels, land use planning and development impacts. For many citizens of Jackson County, organizers says, especially those whose incomes are toward the low-end of the scale, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a decent, affordable place to live. They want to get more people talking about the scope of the problem that is making low-cost housing difficult to find. Everyone interested is invited to join in the conversation, to share their housing stories and to share ideas about potential solutions. Participants will gather for what's intended as a comfortable, respectful, non-confrontational conversation about the affordable housing crisis. Simultaneous interpretation with earphones will be provided for Spanish speakers. Community leaders act as expert facilitators to guide the conversation by asking questions and providing some facts and figures and a framework for the discussion. The session, which is open to the public, starts with a free light supper followed by a facilitated discussion. It's set for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, in the large meeting room at the Medford Library, 205 S. Central Ave., Medford. Anyone planning to attend is asked to RSVP by email to [email protected] by Friday, Dec. 4. Community Conversations is a series of events to which residents of Jackson County are invited to come learn about a topic of importance to them and to share their views about that topic with their neighbors. Previous conversation topics were transportation and poverty. Organizers on the Community Conversations Committee include Allen Hallmark of Talent.
