--> --> Grizz down Pels, clinch at least tie for second KLAMATH FALLS - The Ashland High volleyball team clinched at least a tie for second place in the Southern Oregon Conference with a 15-5, 15-13 victory over winless Klamath Union Tuesday night. The Grizzlies (10-3) travel to Crater (8-4) Thursday night in the battle for the No. 2 slot out of the SOC in next week's state playoffs. The No. 2 spot would give the Grizzlies a home match Oct. 31 against the No. 4 team out of either the Metro or Mt. Hood leagues. Finishing at No. 3 would put the Grizzlies in the position of hosting the No. 4 team from the Valley Oct. 29, and then have to win three matches to get to Portland. Grizz head coach Josh Rohlfing said his Grizzlies aren't putting too much importance on the match - they are just trying to get better. "We talk up every match because we are trying to improve," he said. "We are always looking to improve. You always want your team to peak going into the playoffs. We hit our peak at about midseason and now we are trying to get back to that level." Tuesday night against Klamath Union, Ashland played its starters and rolled to the opening win, then played reserves and people out of position for the Game 2 victory. "We still could have played better," Rohlfing said. "But we came out and did what we needed to do." Junior middle blocker Marla Morin came away with six kills and four blocks in Game 2. Junior Emma Swanson served for eight points in Game 2 - including four aces. Thursday night's battle in Central Point starts at 7:15 p.m. Email your...
