Ashland dusted, more snow in forecast Break out the scrapers. Overnight snowfall left 3 inches on the Interstate 5 pass to California, and gave Ashland a light dusting as well. And more may be on the way Friday - forecasters predict the possibility of additional snow lowering to 2,500 feet. While National Weather Service spokesman Dennis Hess said the NWS station at the Ashland water plant recorded no snow, and logged just 0.32 inches of precipitation, local weather watcher Doyle Hirsch said he recorded a quarter-inch of snow at his residence, and .55 inches of precipitation. "I've still got snow on my lawn. The (weather service) also says there's no wind blowing, but I have a 30 mph wind at my house. I don't pay attention to them," Hirsch said. National Weather Service forecasts predict fluctuating snow levels throughout the day, and through the weekend. While snow levels are expected to ripple between 2,500 and 3,000 feet throughout the day, on Friday, snow levels are expected to rise to 3,000 feet, and soar higher by Saturday. According to Hirsch, Ashland is up 7 inches of rain over last year, and he expects another 3 inches of precipitation to arrive "if conditions hold." "I think we're doing quite well. A normal water year is about 25 inches, and we're at 27 now. I don't think we'll have the water problems we had last year. I can't guarantee no fires, but we're wetter, " he said.
