--> --> Prefers all private property be taken out of monument Thank you for your view of Jan. 1, 2002, reminding us Ric Holt and Jack Walker made the recommendation to reduce the monument to a "cow pasture." I find it profane that 32,222 acres of privately owned land remains within current monument boundaries. Apart from this, 15,980 acres are proposed for acquisition by the Bureau of Land Management. I believe it would be more appropriate to reduce the boundaries to exclude all private property. This area excluding private property, would become a block of land which would comprise the Soda Mountain wilderness area, Scotch Creek research area, and Pilot Rock. Reducing the monument to exclude private property does not diminish either the intention or purpose of the monument's existence. Allowing private property owners to retain the sanctity of their own private land outside the monument's boundary certainly takes no sparkle from the intended "crown jewel."
