Ashland senior Erika Boehnke soared to a lifetime best of 35-feet, 9-inches to win the triple jump, while sophomore Hannah Clark cleared a personal record of 5-2 to grab the high jump title. Clark, whose previous best was 5-0, needed third and final jumps at 5-1 and 5-2 to walk off with the win. Failure at either height would have denied her not only a win but also a trip to state because at the time, she had more misses than runner-up Blake Stearns of Klamath Union and Haley Godfrey of North Medford. "I was nervous, but I visualized myself getting over the bar those last two times," Clark said. The Grizzlies nearly produced a third winner Saturday, but Natalie Hemphill was edged out by Grants Pass' Katelyn VanBrunt in the 800. VanBrunt crossed the finish line in 2:17.66 and Hemphill in 2:18.73. Hemphill's time was good enough for a state berth. The Grizzly boys did not earn any state berths or individual titles Saturday, but had several top-eight performances: David Morgan took fourth in the 1,500 (4:03.63); Sterling Cooley finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (42.25) and seventh in the 110-meter hurdles (16.33); Adam Trautman took sixth in both the Javelin (160-7) and the 800 (2:01.61); and Andy Wright was sixth in the 1,500 (4:09.41). Tennis At Beaverton, Ashland High sophomore Kayla Moyse lost to No. 1 seed Momei Qu of Wilson, 6-0, 6-0, in the second round of the 4A girls' tennis tournament Friday at Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. Moyse became the only Ashland tennis player - boy or girl - to advance past the first round with a straight-set win Thursday.
