Planning commissioners offer 'drop-in' meetings In what amounts to a new open door policy, Ashlanders with planning concerns are invited to meet with Planning Commission members in a more informal setting. The so-called "drop in" sessions are slated for the fourth Tuesday of every month at 4 p.m. at the Community Development Building's conference room at 51 Winburn Way. According to a commission release, two or three commissioners will make themselves available for the meetings. Because the Planning Commission deals with both legislative and quasi-judicial types of planning actions, it should be noted that the drop-in sessions will be restricted to discussion of the commission's legislative role. The commission's legislative actions involve drafting new municipal ordinances such as the Big Box ordinance, the riparian ordinance or the Railroad District Master Plan ordinance. While such proposed ordinances must be enacted by the Ashland City Council, they are initially reviewed by the Planning Commission for consideration and advice. Quasi-judicial actions like site reviews, subdivision plan approvals may not be discussed outside the commission's regular monthly meeting.
