This is the third in the series of Ashland Innovators Conferences produced by the Ashland Chamber. The first two focused predominantly on showcasing innovation in technology and film in Ashland. Prior to the Innovators Conferences, the Ashland Chamber showcased opportunities for doing business internationally — first in China and Japan and then in Mexico. These conferences are an important part of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce’s overall mission to provide business development and educational opportunities for southern Oregon businesses, thereby enhancing the overall economy of Ashland. The Ashland Chamber of Commerce is grateful to the many partners and sponsors of these conferences over many years. The third annual Ashland Innovators Conference will be held in the Rogue River Room at Southern Oregon University with Gregory V. Jones, Ph.D., director of the division of business, communication and the environment at SOU, as the keynote speaker and emcee. Doors open at noon for networking and viewing of vendor resource tables. The conference officially begins at 1 p.m. Following Dr. Jones’ welcome and industry overview, three panels featuring industry leaders will begin. The first panel will focus on the regional farms, agriculture and meats, highlighting the process of the farm-to-table movement. The second panel will feature producers of value-added products developed regionally, such as chocolates, coffee, cheeses and breads, just to name a few. The final panel will highlight the wine and beer industries from small production to international distribution. Each panelist will share not only the story of their business, but of the entirety of the industry, how it has evolved and opportunities for the future. Individuals representing federal, state and local resources for accessing capital to developing a business plan will be available as a resource. Following the conference, there will be a networking reception from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring tastings of regional products. The food and beverage manufacturing and related service industries have played a critical role in Ashland’s overall economy for years as Ashland continues to be a destination for the culinary visitor. The Ashland Chamber of Commerce’s Visitor & Convention Bureau promotes the culinary experience to the more than 300,000 visitors who make Ashland their travel destination each year, through the annual Ashland Culinary Festival to be held on Nov. 6-8, 2015, and during Restaurant Preview Week in February, giving restaurants the opportunity to showcase unique specials and offer events and workshops before the busy visitor season begins. The development of the Ashland Business Resource Portal ( www.ashlandbusinessresource.com) in 2014 underscored the economic impact of these industries through their vast local employment.
