--> --> Term limits revision may be snagged - Associated Press SALEM - A proposed ballot measure to ease term limits hit a snag Monday when the Senate rejected House changes that would bar term-limited lawmakers from seeking re-election even if voters passed the measure. The move sends the proposal to a joint conference committee to try to reach an agreement. The Senate-passed version of the measure would have voters decide the issue this November so if the change passed, some lawmakers could run again who otherwise would have been forced from office. House amendments instead would put the revisions on the ballot in November 2002, the next general election. That would prevent term-limited legislators from seeking re-election next year, even if voters ended up relaxing the limitations in the fall. The measure would keep the current 12-year overall limit on legislative service while eliminating a six-year limit for House members and the eight-year ceiling on Senate tenure. A lawsuit is pending that seeks to overturn the term limits law. A total of 26 legislators will be turned out of office next year by the law unless it's changed or struck down. Email your...
