Editorial: 'Earmarks of al-Qaida' President Bush warned this nation that the fight against terror would be long and difficult. He was right. Monday's bombing in Riyadh has the "earmarks of al-Qaida," Secretary of State Colin Powell said today. Meanwhile, Bush has vowed to hunt down the attackers in remarks eerily similar to those made in the days following Sept. 11. Here we go again. Osama bin Laden - let's face it, he's still alive - and his deadly terrorist crew may have conducted an attack inside one of the world's most tightly policed nations - Saudi Arabia. If this is true, what's to stop these terrorists from committing another round of violence on U.S. soil? Monday's suicide operation killed nearly 100, including seven Americans. The coordinated attack occurred at three housing compounds for international workers. Among these workers are members of the Vinnell Corp., a Virginia company with a contract to train Saudi military and civilian officials. If al-Qaida does take responsibility for this suicide assault, it will be the deadliest terror attack on Americans since the unspeakable horror in New York and Washington, D.C. Afghanistan and Iraq have been 'liberated" by U.S.-led forces, but yet the constant threat of terrorism remains. There is little doubt that the Riyadh bombings will fuel Bush's drive to rid the world of terror, but it also gives Islamic extremists around the globe a new cause for celebration. Now, the world will watch and wait to see not only how the United States reacts, but whether this is the opening of a new terror campaign across the planet.
