ASHLAND HIGH SCHOOL Ashland High School's robotics team's season ends at district meet Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Apr. 10, 2015 at 5:10 PM Posted Apr. 10, 2015 at 5:10 PM » Social News Ashland High School's FIRST Robotics Team ended its season in Washington at the district meet last weekend, advancing to the quarterfinals before falling to teams from Portland and Seattle. Coach Paul Moen said in a release that it was the first time the Ashland team has qualified for the district meet, held Thursday, April 2 through Saturday, April 4. The Oregon FIRST — For Recognition and Inspiration of Science and Technology — program challenges teams from across the state to come up with a robot they design over a 6-week period. Under this year's challenge, "Recycle Rush," the creations are tasked with building stacks of plastic storage totes and recycling cans. This is done in cooperation with other robots during 2-minute matches. Teams score points by the number of tote stacks and their heights. Team officials said the team had previously been honored with the Judge's Award and Engineering Inspiration Award at previous events held in Oregon City and Philomath, due to their outreach efforts in mentoring a  younger team and helping the city of Ashland remove invasive species from Lithia Park.
