Beatrice Schutz Services will be held at a later date for Beatrice Gorkin Schutz, 81, of Ashland, who died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000 at home. Mrs. Schutz was born on April 27, 1919, in New York City, the daughter of Harry and Sonya Gorkin. She was known for her talents as a pianist. She graduated from the Juilliard School of Music, where she met her husband, Herbert Schutz, who preceded her in death in 1968. The couple married in 1940 in New York, where Mrs. Schutz worked as a music and piano teacher until her 1968 move to San Francisco, where she worked as executive director of a halfway house. She also lived for a time in West Virginia, before settling in Ashland in 1984. Mrs. Schutz loved the theatre, music, reading, and traveling. She worked at the Ashland Public Library for many years. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Luther Schutz (and wife Maryam) of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Peter Schutz (and wife Arlene Mita) of Arnoldburg, W.
