Last year was the fifth anniversary of my son, Kyle's, death. I asked friends and relatives to send me "Kyle" stories to help me honor his memory. When I hung up the Christmas stockings, I tucked these Kyle stories into his stocking. Yes, I cried when I read the stories and yet the tears allowed happy memories to surface in a new way. If you know a family who has lost a child, consider sharing a memory. One of the biggest fears bereaved parents face is that their child will be forgotten. Another way for a family to ease the pain is to attend The Compassionate Friends (TCF) Worldwide Candle Lighting Service. It is held every year on the second Sunday of December. This year marks the eighth year where starting in New Zealand at 7 p.m., continuing through the time zones, a 24-hour ring of light around the world is created to honor children of any age who have died. This year's ceremony is on Sunday, Smullin Education Center, 2825 E. Barnett Rd., Medford. The local Southern Oregon TCF chapter co-sponsors the event with WinterSpring, Asante Hospice and Hospice of Providence. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. with a short program beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the outdoor candle lighting at 7 p.m. Bring a photo or memento for the memory table. Candles are provided and refreshments are served following the candle lighting. If you cannot attend, you could participate by lighting a candle at home between 7 and 8 p.m. For information, call 779-6581. Dorothy McDonough Ashland Swing article brought back happy thoughts The Backpage article "On a Swing and Some Air" by Chris Honor� was a wonderful piece. It reminded me of the times as a young child in the park swinging on the swings. I loved the merry go round, I loved the slide but the swing!!!!! It was the best.
