Elva Pearl Schweiger Elva Pearl Schweiger, 86, of Talent, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at Ashland Community Hospital. Arrangements by Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland. Nat Silverman After a beautiful and giving life of nearly 95 years, Nat Silverman passed away in Ashland on Sept. 21. A memorial service to celebrate the goodness he brought into this world will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Temple Emek Shalom, 1800 E. Main Street in Ashland. Mr. Silverman, who was buried last week in Phoenix, Ariz., moved to Ashland in 1998 after the death of his wife of 66 years in order to be close to his son Ron and daughter-in-law Myra. He resided at Mountain View Retirement Residence and was considered to be "the most dapper of gentlemen." Among the many friends he made in the Rogue Valley, he was known for his graciousness and his wit. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Silverman moved to Los Angeles as a youth and then to Phoenix where for nearly a half century he was a prominent leader of the Jewish community. He made his living as a furniture salesman but spent an equal amount of time in community service. At one time or another he headed most Jewish organizations in Phoenix and received several lifetime achievement awards for his work. In addition to Ron and Myra, he is survived by his son Andy, a professor of law at the University of Arizona in Tucson, and his daughter-in-law Starr. He is also survived by four grandchildren including Brooke Sanders Silverman, who resides in Ashland and teaches at Emek Shalom's pre-school, and two great grandchildren.
