Ashland Ski Area, will announce on Monday that he is resigning, according to a member of the board of directors. His current job is overseeing the resort’s expansion plans. “He’s decided he wants to do different things,” Greg Williams, a member of the ski area’s board of directors, said. “He decided he wanted to go in a different direction at this time.” Hanson, when reached for comment on Friday, would not confirm or deny that he was leaving. Mt. Ashland scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. Monday at the ski area “to announce a transition in management of the ski area and to answer questions regarding the resort’s future plans,” according to a press release. Bill Little, president of the ski resort’s board of directors would not elaborate on the release. Williams said Hanson has been contemplating this decision for some time “but didn’t actually make it official until recently.” In October, Mt. Ashland announced that Hanson was stepping down as general manager of the ski resort to deal full-time with expansion plans for the ski mountain. In 2004, the resort was given permission by the U.S. Forest Service to add 70 acres to the ski and snowboard facility. The expansion plans are currently tied up in litigation. Williams, a past president of the resort’s board of directors, said Hanson has agreed to act as a consultant for Mt. Ashland on their expansion plans. “He’s promised to stay in-volved in the legal process,” Wil-liams said. “We’re very pleased he is going to do that. He knows the NEPA process so well.” Williams said Mt. Ashland is still “a bit up in the air” as to how they will replace Hanson. He said they are meeting this weekend to discuss the matter. He added that he “has nothing but great things to say” about Hanson. “Jeff’s been fabulous,” Williams said. “He’s been totally loyal and dedicated to the mountain. He’s one of the nicest people I know. We’re going to miss him.
