Ashland, next year's season passes are on-sale and mountain staff is ready for some snow. "We realize that everyone is hungry to get out on the slopes after last year," says Jamie Schectman, the mountain's interim marketing director. "We're ready to go as soon as Mother Nature cooperates." Season passes on sale through Sept. 30 cost $399 ($189 for kids age 7 to 12, $129 for seniors 70 and older and $30 for kids 6 and younger). During the season, youth and regular passes will cost $219 and $499. Passes can be purchased at the business office, 693 Washington St., Ashland, or online at www.mtashland.com. Passes also can be purchased in interest-free payments over three months. Passholders from the 2013-14 season can purchase passes for this season at a 50 percent discount. New this year are college student passes for $299. "With around 6,000 students, we really want to strengthen our connections with Southern Oregon University and make skiing more affordable and accessible for students," Schectman says. The student passes will cost the same price all season and are only available at the business office. Students must bring valid student ID and their current class schedule. Passholders also can ski and snowboard at Mt. Shasta, Hoodoo, Anthony Lakes and Bluewood for $25 through Mt. Ashland's ski exchange program. Passholders can upgrade to a donor pass for a minimum donation of $40 which includes discounts at the retail shop, private lessons and the repair center. New general manager Hiram Towle started work last week and is working with staff to create new programs and events at the mountain. "He's really hit the ground running," Schectman says. "We're still finalizing details but we're working on carpool specials and a weekly live music series." Towle is also working with the board to come up with a contingency plan in the event of another non-season. "It's one of their top priorities," Schectman says. "They're evaluating refund plans and other options should mother nature not cooperate this year. Last year was the first time in 50 years where we didn't have a season and it's probably not the last." In the mean time, Mt. Ashland will host a party celebrating the next 50 years of the mountain. "It will be open to everyone and a great opportunity to meet the new GM and celebrate the next era Mt. Ashland," Schectman says. "Much of the ski community meets up in the winter and don't get to see those friends for the rest of the year. "We want to help facilitate that comradery and have a good time." The celebration is set for 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at the main lodge. There also will be drink specials at the T-Bar and live music by local '60s and '70s rockers the East Main Band. Mt. Ashland also has released a commemorative coffee table book on the mountain's 50 year history. It features interviews with mountain founders and photos from throughout the mountain's history compiled by Media Manager Mike Dadaos. The book is available for $35 online or at the business office. "We want to help the community get excited," Schectman says. "We want more fun events and we want to create a better connection with Ashland."
