The Minimalists' Asymmetrical Press and Exile Lifestyle WordTasting Tour 2015 is coming to Bloomsbury Books from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. The all-day event features Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, known as The Minimalists, and a team of talented writers and musicians who will share their message about living more with less stuff. Authors Colin Wright, Josh Wagner and Shawn Mihalik will read and discuss their work. Violinist and composer Skye Steele will also perform. Childhood friends Millburn and Nicodemus founded TheMinimalists.com, a website all about their quest to simplify their lives in 2010. Since starting the site, they've become online sensations. Through essays, blogs, TED talks and other media appearances, Millburn and Nicodemus tackle serious topics such as simple living, pursuing one’s passion, writing, publishing, entrepreneurship, health, relationships, personal growth and contributing to a better world. The WordTasting Tour differs from traditional author tours in that it features five authors instead of one and, in addition to readings, it will include performances, presentations and music. The event is a means of preaching the minimalist philosophy and sharing the happy results, which includes more stories, music and humor. Colin Wright is the co-founder of Asymmetrical Press and author of “My Exile Lifestyle,” a memoir of his first years of traveling wherein he moved to a new country every four months based on the votes of his blog readers. He also writes and talks about topics ranging from nonstandard lifestyle choices to the future of the publishing industry. Josh Wagner is an artist and creative consultant, as well as the author of five books, including “Shapes the Sunlight Takes.” Shawn Mihalik the editor-in-chief of Asymmetrical Press and the author of three works of fiction, including his most recent novel, “Particles.” Both Millburn and Nicodemus are former executives who, while still in their 30s, left their highly paid jobs, large houses and rooms full of stuff in order to simplify their lives. They write that their minimalist movement isn’t just about getting rid of things but — more importantly — making room for what enhances life, such as relationships, exercise, finances and romance. Together they have authored four collections of essays culled from their blogs and speaking engagements. The most recent collection, “Essential,” combines work from the previous books, as well as a number of new essays on living a more intentional life. The books do a fine job of inspiring rather than lecturing. The authors emphasize there are many flavors of minimalism. For example, they write that a 20-year-old single guy’s minimalist lifestyle looks different from a 45-year old mother’s minimalist lifestyle. Each path, they say, leads to the same place: a life with more time, freedom and meaning. The event is free and open to the public. Bloomsbury Books is at 290 E. Main St., Ashland.
