Ashland Calendar Comment DailyTidings.com Writer Posted Dec. 27, 2014 @ 12:01 am Posted Dec. 27, 2014 @ 12:01 am » Social News Saturday, Dec. 27 Jacksonville Victorian Christmas: Experience Christmas from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in December at the historic Beekman House, 470 E. California St., Jacksonville. The theme will be a Victorian Christmas Boxing Day on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 27-28. "Boxing Day" may be a reference to the church alms boxes that collected donations for the poor. The tradition of giving money and other gifts to those in need and servants can be traced to the Middle Ages. Costumed docents will share the origins of many popular holiday traditions along with stories of the Beekman family's holiday festivities of the 1800s. Tours begin every 15 minutes and last one hour. Admission is $5, $3 for seniors ages 65 and older and students ages 6 through 12, and will be available at the door. Tour admission is $2 on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 27-28, for those who bring canned food items for ACCESS. For people who wish to pay the full tour admission, the difference will be donated to ACCESS. Entrance to a Christmas bazaar is free. Call 541-245-3650 for information. New Year's Dance: Dance to music by the Pat Summers Country Dance Band from 8 p.m. to midnight Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Rogue River Community Center Annex, 132 Broadway St. Bring refreshments to share. Admission is a $4. Global Peace Dance: Join a joyous tradition now in its 22nd year with dances of universal peace from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the old Headwaters building, corner of Fourth and C Streets, Ashland. These easily learned dances and songs are an interfaith celebration of a common divine inheritance. Sacred phrases form the hub around which the dances whirl. The Ashland Sufi Heart Circle's local event aligns with many similar circles throughout the world as people cycle into the New Year. All are welcome. A $10 to $15 donation is requested. Bootleggers Ball: The second annual New Year's Eve Bootleggers Ball will include a Roaring 20s-themed party with electro-swing music, burlesque show, casino games for funny money and prizes at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Bathtub Gin Serenaders will open the show with live jazz and blues, followed by DJ Shakti Bliss and DJ Cyril Noir for the countdown to 2015. There will be a full bar. Tickets cost $25 in advance and can be purchased at Music Coop, 268 E. Main St., or online at liveatthearmory.com. Tickets will cost $30 the day of the show, $45 for VIP seats. VIP seats include a complimentary champagne toast, dinner, a gift bag and $200 in funny money. Costumes are strongly encouraged. The event is open only to ages 21 and older.
