Ryan Dale, center, and Carrie Lesowski , second from right, are sworn in as Ashland police officer on Tuesday by interim APD chief Ron Goodpaster. Bon Stewart | For the Tidings That brings the total to five new police officers since August. APD is now in the process of looking for two more officers. When those positions are filled, the department will be at full staff for the first time since in "seven or eight years," said Deputy Police Chief Rich Walsh. "We're really excited about this new batch of people," Walsh said. "It's really nice to see people here who are excited to be here. Morale is high." Lesowski is new to Southern Oregon, growing up in Sandy, Oregon and transferring to APD from the Portland Police Department. But she does have a local connection. Her fiance, Aaron Hull, is an officer with the Phoenix Police Department. His brother is Theron Hull, who works with APD. "I've never been to Southern Oregon until I met Aaron," she said, noting that she and Hull when in the police academy together. "When I found out Ashland was hiring I applied." She said her husband's job in Phoenix "was a huge part" of her decision. "There were a whole bunch of factors but I probably never would have considered the southern part of the state" without Hull." She and Hull live together in Medford. She said another part of her decision was that she wanted to do police work in a smaller, tighter-knit community than the Portland area. "It's nice to know the town you work in," she said. "It's very community-oriented here. That's what I was looking for." Dale came to APD from the Talent Police Department, where he worked for more than a year, but he partially grew up in Ashland and attended high school here. His first job in law enforcement was working for the Jackson County Juvenile Justice Department, where he was employed for almost seven years. It was at that job that he first made friends with Ashland police officers. While at Talent PD, he made more Ashland police officer friends. "I know every single one of them," he said, about his new co-workers. "I feel like a I can walk in with some experience. I still know a lot of people in town." Like Lesowski, he said the lure of working for APD lies largely with the community he will serve as police officer. "I like the idea of walking down the street and waving at your neighbor," he said. "I feel such a strong tie to the community here." In addition to serving on the police force, Dale would also like to serve the Ashland community in other ways, as well. He talked about coaching children's sports in his spare time. "My goal is to be here a while," Dale said. "Actually, I could see myself retiring here." The three other recent hires are: Devon Lee; Matt Carpenter and Jason Weber. Staff writer Robert Plain can be reached at 482-3456 x. 226 or [email protected] Current Comments: Well bitchie, you sure picked the right name. Not every cop can be a "hug and release" type. I'm glad there are people like the Hulls and their family who are willing to step up to the plate and put their lives on the line for "bitchie" people in Ashland. On a nicer note: I'm glad Mr. Goodpastor is the one to hire these new officers. He's been a wonderful interim Chief and we should be happy he's the one filling these positions. Congrats to Weber, Lee, Carpenter, Dale and Lesowski! Leo ( [email protected] ) - Ashland - January 3rd, 2:55 PM EDITOR: Seems like you broke your own rules against personal attacks and ugly language by allowing the comments of "bitchie" to be posted???!!!??? DPB - Ashland - January 3rd, 3:00 PM Nice comments "bitchie". People like you are the reason we need cops. More than likely your nasty comments are the result of a long life of crime and being a real jerk when contacted by a police officer. I've met people like you before. You get what you give, pinhead. I'm not a cop so don't even go there - Ashland, OR - January 3rd, 3:44 PM Bitchie sounds like the kind of person for which a strong police force is necessary. Too bad. Donna D. - Ashland OR - January 3rd, 4:40 PM Surely there must have been qualified applicants who were familier with Southern Oregon and Ashland in particular. Dragging in someone from Portland makes no sense and I think is a recipe for boredom as a community officer. That could potentially interfere with good judgement on the street. As an aside, why are so many officers carrying around all that extra weight? None of them look fit. tw - Ashland - January 3rd, 4:47 PM Congratulations to the new officers of Ashland. I know that they will be a great addtion to the city's already fine police department and will strive to make it a safer place to live and work. Thanks again for all the hard work you do. Sincerly Joe Citizen. Joe Citizen - Ashland - January 3rd, 9:20 PM Holy Cow! Doesn't the APD have a fitness requirement? I hope these new ones are put on foot or bicycle patrol. Steve - Japan - January 3rd, 11:11 PM I have no problems with anonymous contributors or with wacky points of view such as those posted by "bitchie". I just wish such wackos would be more vocal more often so that more citizens would be more aware of the threats to our safety these people pose, and vote accordingly. Lester Ingber - Ashland OR - January 4th, 5:21 AM So much for a fair and impartial hiring process at APD... Hull's sister-in-law Carrie and Police Officer Association President MacLennans best friend Ryan Dale were hired. The next job "offering" posted by the city should note that "only friends and relatives will be considered". APD is going from Bad to Worse. Way to go Walsh. You're leaving quite a legacy in your final years. Getting in a little payback on us Ashland People?I'm sure you will be moving somewhere else when you retire. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 4th, 9:05 AM Steve L. Iverson, your accusation of nepotism would be supported only if there was evidence other qualified individuals were overlooked to hire these particular officers. Have you this evidence? Do you want to be an Ashland police officer? David Hays - Tulelake, CA - January 4th, 12:51 PM Physically fit? The 4 officers in the picture are physically fit. And the lady in pink is Officer Dale's wife, who is pregnant!! All applicants must pass a physically demanding obstacle test before hiring and pass a doctor's physical. And typical Iverson, bashing the police department. You need a new song, Steve, your "APD sucks" tune is getting old. Find any insider conspiracies on the other three recent hires? Leo ( [email protected] ) - Ashland - January 4th, 1:11 PM What's this now? The new police recruits know people at the police department already?! Scandal! That means they can't be good officers! Wow, Iverson, new low. Apparently we're judging people on who they know instead of their qualifications. There are 5 new officers listed in the article and you find a link with 2. It absolutely couldn't be that these employees were 2 applicants qualified for the position. Iverson: always the hound dog tracking the scent of injustice. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 4th, 2:50 PM Well Steve, nothing changes I guess...since Bianca allowed his own son to be hired by an officer under him to work in the police/parks "park patrol" while he was chief. Guess Walsh took lessons from Bianca. Nothing New - Ashland, OR - January 4th, 4:29 PM Iverson is up to his typical cop bashing I see. I have a great idea, why don't you go and meet the new officers Steve. You always complain about them, why not do something different this time. Guy - Grants Pass - January 4th, 4:33 PM Didn't investigate this or get certified experts to review the APD hiring process(if there even was one)I just made an observation regarding the two new hires;both are either a relative or very close friend of officers at the department. Officers who may or may not have been involved directly with the hiring process. Maybe they were the best candidates? No matter what the circumstances leading to their hiring, you have to admit it begs notice;APD fan or not. Goodpaster rubber stamped it-DONE. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 4th, 6:16 PM Wow, with preconceived notions about their abilities to do the job from the citizens it is no wonder certain people view the police as hostile. I for one wish all the new hires luck and congratulations for embarking on a difficult job! I appreciate all your efforts. Lucy Four - Ashland, OR - January 4th, 7:36 PM I am sure that the officers in this article are bowled over by this welcome. Perhaps if you read the article you might notice that both officers stated their reason for joining APD was the tight-knit community. Valid points have been made; like the fact that these two people have just pledged to put their life on the line for youbut that isnt as flashy as nepotism. I think the next article should focus on how someone can go from being a fiance to a wife in the space of two paragraphs. Sarah - Anchorage, AK - January 4th, 8:35 PM W- You said it not me; "Apparently we're judging people on who they know instead of their qualifications." David Hays- Just pointing out the facts regarding the latest two hires. No evidence of wrong doing.I'm sure we can trust there was no special consideration given them in the "process". Bitchie- not cool man.Go ahead and question policies, practices, tactics, decision making, hiring processes...but when you get nasty no one will consider what you have to say as worthy. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 4th, 9:34 PM Shouldn't new cops have beeen hired by the new chief. Oh sombody is still deciding. I thought the city was cutting costs Halloween isn't for 9 more months. Make Market of choice hire their own cop to watch for soup thieves. Can these cops fix Lincoln's head. ann - ashland or - January 5th, 12:30 AM Leo & W - Do all five hires have to fall under suspicious hiring for there to be a potential conflict of interest of here? W-Injustice; someone needs to be paying attention.Apparently the City and APD are not looking out for taxpayers best interest;just their own. Physically Fit?Are you guys kidding?I didn't want to go there. The dark uniforms are supposed to have a slimming effect. But they only work so well.Love to see the times for the mile and a half run on the APD in the photo. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 5th, 9:30 AM Mr. Iverson, I'd love to see YOU do the police department's physical agility hiring test. I'll be happy to film and post it. Put your money where your mouth is, there is another hiring coming up very soon. Oh, and we'll outfit you with a bulky bulletproof vest and 20 lb utility belt so you look especially slim in your photos. I see you neglected to comment on your favorite son, Bianca's, nepotism. I'm sure there is some excuse. Any time - Ashland, OR - January 5th, 6:28 PM Oh, add this to the conspiracy theories floating around... Note the name of the photographer on the above photo for the Daily Tidings; Bon Stewart. Bon is an officer who works for APD....now play Twilight Zone music please..... (Bon is one of the good officers) Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 5th, 8:50 PM Anytime-Officers need to be fit.Not citizens who pay their wages. However,I'd smoke that agility test brother.I'd be eating Doughnuts at Pucks while they were still negotiating the course. Bianca's son- that is what the parks program for officers was designed for; young teenagers aspiring to pursue law enforcement. He went through the process, performed and tested well. He did a fine job the summer he worked. Was he singled out as the Chief's son? yes, they were harder on him. How's that? Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Oregon - January 5th, 9:28 PM And apparently you don't understand sarcasm, Iverson. Steve, your argument is weak. Your claim: Dale and Lesowski got their jobs because of the people they know within that department. Your evidence: nowhere to be found. Your only evidence lies in that they may be related to or be friends with people that already work for the APD. Just another attempt on your behalf to gather the villagers, light the torches and march up toward the "evil" APD. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 5th, 10:51 PM So, Iverson, in the case of Bianca's son, he didn't get hired because he was the chief's son, but rather got hired because(your answer): the program was designed for people who aspire for law enforcement careers. News flash Iverson, police officer positions are designed for... people who want to be police officers! You say Bianca's son went through the process and tested well... Guess what?! Dale and Lesowski went through the process and tested well too! Enough whining Iverson. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 5th, 10:57 PM "lay their life on the line.." Get reeeeel. Can anybody tell me when the last time somebody in APD got shot at? I recall a whacko with a butcher knife that darned near got turned into a screen door, but golly, he was out-gunned and out-numbered by about 30 to one. I'm hard-pressed to feel sorry for mobs. And dear 'ANY TIME': I can tell by your writing that you're an APD with the initials of "S.Mc.", and man, can YOU stir the ****. Put down your radar gun&click the seat belt on that motorcycle. anonyMUST - ashland OR - January 6th, 8:49 AM Ann, good question about waiting for the new chief to hire new cops. The simple answer is no based on the need for new cops and the time it takes to hire new ones. The process takes at least two months to advertise, receive applications, and test. A brand new officer won't work alone for at least another six months. An officer from another agency will take at least two maybe three months to be trained by APD. To wait would put them down to many positions and put the community at risk. Robert - Jefferson - January 6th, 10:23 AM So why did we hire 5 new cops for next halloween.5 more cops 5 more cars, and gas. Look at police log people stealing soup, drunk, and egg on a house. How many do we need to file a report. What about hiring local? ann - ashland or - January 6th, 12:49 PM Iverson, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Whatever yer smokin' - dude, ya gotta lay off for a while. It's makin' you way too paranoid. Every time they have a swearing in, the department takes pictures. They do it as a remembrance for the officer and their family. The DT asked for a photo and got one. You may pass the physical but I know that you wouldn't pass the psychological. Shake it off, fella. Jessie J - Ashland, OR - January 6th, 1:22 PM Okay, let's settle this in an easy way. How many applicants did Dale and Hull's Sister-in-Law beat out? If there was only a few applicants no problem. Get into higher numbers and there is more explaining needed. Remember-The process at APD consists of a few officers on a panel scoring applicants. The officers on that panel would be important, and if they were approached by anyone influencing them towards scoring certain applicants higher. It doesn't take much. How many applied? Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 6th, 1:41 PM Where did "Bitchhie's" comment go? It was the first comment, and now its gone. Trouble2 - Ashland, OR - January 6th, 2:33 PM So how many people believe "Steve L. Iverson" is Mike Bianca or one of his buddys? Please vote now. Maybe Tidings could use this as their next poll. And it's a conspiracy that Bon Stewart took pictures at the swearing-in? That must mean Bon is secretly a distant cousin of Hull's brother's sister-in-law. Oh and he's a detective not an officer. Congrats again to the five new officers. And thank you to all of APD. You are VERY much appreciated!! Leo ( [email protected] ) - Ashland - January 6th, 4:59 PM W-It's clear that you are an officer at APD. Too sensitive to debate many of these issues with. All I did was point out what I knew. Dale and Lesowski(Hull) were relatives or close friends of officers at APD. Your weak defense that they were the best candidates for the position conflicts with common sense and life experiences. I think many of us know what happened here. You guys got called for it. No one is rallying the villagers. But I am raising awareness to what's happening down there. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 6th, 6:09 PM W-One more point.Trying to compare a summer job for young people at the Parks Department with full time employment of police officers is absurd. The impact of a juvenile hired to the Parks Dept. even if it was influenced by Bianca is far less than the impact of bringing relatives or friends into APD.You stress over and over the need for well trained officers with superior police skills (versus citizens evaluating issues). How can you be okay with this situation? Who are you looking out for? Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 6th, 6:17 PM Congradulations on Carries new hire and to Carrie and Aarons marriage. Surprise Surprise. Hope all goes well for the Ashland police Department. Julie Denny - Springfield, Or - January 6th, 7:45 PM Iverson, I bet Dale would be up to the challenge. You should give him a call. carol - Ashland - January 7th, 4:30 PM One big happy family. Isn't Selby and Vanderlip like siblings and the 2 new ones. Relatives are usually discourage by employers. If you hire someone they should be able to perform, 6 months to train. APD doen't seem to have to follow any kind of rules.Karma always comes back. ann - ashland or - January 8th, 8:18 AM Ive got $50.00 that says Carrie Lesowski is smarter, can out run, out jump, out shoot and out physically perform Steve L. Iverson and get higher scores on any test you throw at her. How about it Steve (Mike)? Put your money where your mouth is! Youll have an excuse to wear your cute little shorts again. One more thing, we have had a couple officers killed in the line of duty in Ashland. Theres a plaque near the flag pole with their names on it. Welcome to Ashland. Lori Munson - Ashland, OR - January 8th, 5:38 PM Yes, Steve, it conflicts with common sense and life experiences because there's more evidence to support that they were chosen fairly than they were chosen because of who they knew. And, by the way, this isn't about defending any department, APD can defend themselves - they don't need me, which I am NOT working there - this is more about trying to show how you and your wild, unevidenced claims are way off base. W. - Ashland, OR - January 8th, 7:16 PM And you're not raising any awareness, you're just making waves with wildy unsubstantiated claims. If you want your conspiracy theories, Iverson, fine. You're just finding any reason to put down an actually decently run department and you're willing to make claims that lack any evidence. And, true to your form, you jump on the opportunity to judge Dale and Lesowski without giving them a fair chance. The day they're sworn in you're convinced it's all a nepotistic conspiracy. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 8th, 7:21 PM Steve Iverson, so what you are saying is nepotism is fine as long as it is committed by your hero Mike Bianca? Your silly rants get worse by the day. Do you really expect anyone to take you serious? Maybe you and Ann could open up a secret investigation club where you can take turns picking the APD conspiracy of the month. If you are so bent with the powers that be, then why don't you run for a position in the Ashland Coucil? Robert - Jefferson - January 8th, 10:06 PM When APD puts out the info for a job opening, it goes nation wide to police depts and worldwide via the internet. They get very few applicants. Why you ask? Most people now Google the place they are applying and who in their right mind would touch Ashland with a ten foot pole when you read about the crap that goes on here? No one wants to constantly put up with the pre-schoolish my way or I throw a fit vocal minority of this town. Aka: the 'State of Ashland.' Still these 5 came willing to serve. Lucky - Ashland - January 9th, 10:15 AM Ann-Yes,Vanderlip is Selby's cousin.Selby's father was a former officer prior to her hire. Art Lecours is Detective Randy Snow's nephew. Hmmmmm. Just because they are related doesn't always mean something inappropriate occurred in the hiring. But when I saw two hired at one time...I had to question it. It seems the inmates are running the asylum under Goodpaster as he has pretty much approves everything everyone down there wants. Keep them all happy. Its called Appeasement. Not good business. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 9th, 12:56 PM W & Robert-I never used the word Nepotism.I just posted a fact regarding the relationships of these two hires with officers at APD.Everyone else went nutz trying to defend this "Nepotism" scare. Regarding the applicants;I again ask for an investigation. But who will investigate? No one cares whats going on down there,so you folks don't need to be so defensive. Oh,and Lori Munson, the APD officers killed in Ashland was in the 1930's.You could probably mention attacks on settlers by Indians too. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 9th, 1:17 PM Keep on singin' Steve L. Iverson. You should be a SOU professor teaching APD bashing 101. Leo ( str ) - as - January 9th, 1:48 PM "Iverson" (aka Mike Bianca) & Ann-appendage, Why don't you just call the city personnel department and get the hiring information, instead of making accusations here. Not as much fun? Nepotism: Employment and economic policies practicing favoritism toward one's family. A chief hiring his son is nepotism (no matter what the position.) A chief hiring people unrelated to him (but related to other employees) is not. According to you, EVERYTHING, in the city is the police departments fault & When monkeys fly out my butt - Ashland, OR - January 9th, 1:58 PM some sort of conspiracy. Everything you comment on, from city council, to parks, to dogs, to hobos, no matter how unrelated, becomes a slam on the police. Youre bitter about losing your job and the fact that Walsh and Selby are still there. There are a lot of people who arent real fond of those 2, but youre starting to annoy even your allies. The really stupid part is that you know darn well that the final decisions to hire are made by the Chief. Not any of the related officers. Monkey continued - Ashland, OR - January 9th, 1:59 PM Its getting really tiring brother. Have an opinion on something else for a change. Monkey too - Ashland, OR - January 9th, 2:00 PM Steve L. Iverson, Since you seem to be a self appointed expert on the APD you might want to get your facts straight. LeCours and Snow are not related- at all. Do you work? Or do my taxes pay for your Oregon Trail Card so you can eat while you type? You have way too much time on your hands. Rolland - Medford Oregon - January 9th, 5:16 PM Can't we all just get along? I mean really! Just because we keep police business in our little family circle dosn't mean we can't harass our citizens properly. There are people smoking weed as we argue! Mabye even driving uninsured. How about concentrating on more tazers and armour peircing bullets. Lets face it there is a war going on and us cops have to cuff and stuff some criminals (kids mainly), before we get sued for sexual harassment. I believe in a nazi-esque ashland, lets face the music van blarkem - talent - January 9th, 5:30 PM Snow and LeCours-related by marriage. Nice to see APD is reading this forum. Chief Bianca didn't hire his son.He was not involved in that Parks Dept.hire. I'm not Bianca.Interesting how many folks have validated the information I'm posting by assuming only a true insider like Bianca could get this correct. As for APD bashing 101; at least I'm not a "Badge Groupie" or APD officer posting - unable to admit any wrong doing. APD's mean spirited attitude towards Ashland has come home to roost. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 9th, 5:46 PM Snow and LeCours are not related by marriage or any other way. You are flat out wrong. Rolland - Medford Or - January 9th, 6:22 PM Iverson/Mike, you get quite a bit wrong, but we all just assume you're stoned. If you're not Bianca you must be sleeping with him because you present "facts" from his warped angle. Hope you're Jeannie. Put down the joint for a minute; it's Snow and Amarillis who are related & Bianca directly supervised his son's police officer supervisor (DeSilva)and the hiring. "Just another attempt on your behalf to gather the villagers, light the torches and march up toward the "evil" APD." Amen. Your Monkey Butt - Ashland, OR - January 9th, 7:21 PM Hey, now..if it's Blue, it's true, right? Ann: are you a BadgeBangerSister? I have a big announcement to make: I'm related to some of you blue shirts and I KNOW YOUR DIRT. Please, no soap box operas for me Mun-some; I'll pull the rug out from under it. APD=Nepo-depot. 80 years of trench warfare since the 30's. Amazing. Sadly, I'm still not convinced, and thankyou for welcoming me to Ashland.Been here 30 years but I'm such a newbie. Pardon me and my divergent viewpoint. Turn up the lights. anonyMUST - Ashland,OR - January 9th, 9:24 PM I've always said, if you get something wrong here in this forum you get called on it. Okay Rolland, I admit I was wrong on thie Snow-LeCours information. See, I admit when I'm wrong. Thanks for straightening me out. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 9th, 9:25 PM Dear Lori Munson: from what I've read and read-into your previous postings, you're a Badgie. Please tell me if you were there "sometime in the 30's" to witness that so RECENT "laying of life on the line". Point is, this town IS pretty low-key,yet we're OVER, uh.."pro"-"tected". I still think IVERSON is on to something. At least he has the units to keep APD toes to the fire. Does keep 'em honest, or at least looking over their Resevoir Dog shoulders. Taze that. OhMyGosh - Ashland Oregon - January 9th, 9:47 PM Wrong again Iverson, I'm not an officer and I'm not a Badge Groupie. I'm part of the silent majority in this town that's decided to speak up. You spend so much time bashing APD on this website, I figured the officers needed to hear from the other 99% of people that appreciate them and respect them. Leo ( [email protected] ) - ashland - January 10th, 6:50 AM Leo- I'm really happy to be in the minority. You and the rest of your followers deserve what you get from a disconnected department of outsiders who police like an occupying force more than a department made up of community members dedicated to serving. From tazing students to hiring kin folk and friends we'll see how well Ashland fairs in the days ahead. Remember, you and the other 99 % supported them, not me. Oh, I'm still unconvinced that you are not a Badge Groupie. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 10th, 9:49 AM I don't really know what you mean by calling me a badgebangersister? There is no reason for anyone to speak bad of MIke there was nothing he did wrong and he put alot into this town. We had some good cops even Van Blarcem . All he had to do is bark he didn't need a taser. ann - ashland, or - January 10th, 9:51 AM APD's designees and masked employees need to stop defending their positions here with their anonymous posts and just straighten up their act. We're on to you people. Keep after them Iverson. Munson all you can say about Bianca is you didn't like his shorts? Maynard Matsuda - Ashland,OR - January 10th, 1:14 PM Badgie??? Thats funny. No I'm not a Badgie. Too old and If I was, I would be fired for tazering all the low lives in the park just for fun, damn it. As for Bianca, he may not have been much of a cop but he had a cute butt in those shorts. LOL!!! Lori Munson - Ashland, OR - January 10th, 4:20 PM Iverson, if you are not Bianca, then you must be Flynn. Unable to locate "Iverson" - Ashland - January 10th, 5:51 PM Iverson, you've proven no problems with the APD, instead you've thrown out a barrage of negative conjecture. You've nothing solid on which to build your case against the APD and you try to rally the villagers with your opinions. You're entitled to those opinions, but your arguments aren't going to go far in this debate without a foundation. APD doesn't need my help to defend them, but somebody needs to keep you as accountable as much as you seem to think APD needs to be kept accountable. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 10th, 9:07 PM Butt Monkey (or is it APD Butt Pirate?) - Just because the officers got a lame duck Chief with a rubber stamp to do the actual hiring doesn't absolve their involvement in the "process". Sneaky is what I'll call it. Now we have more MacLennan disciples running around that department. Nice. Happy to have you compare me with Bianca you twisted Monkey. He was a class act and at least stood up to these wanna-bees.He didn't carry the water for them like you and the other Hitler youth bashing Bianca. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Oregon - January 11th, 1:33 AM All I can say is Iverson and the other police bashers are sad, so sad. Do they honestly believe APD is full of uncaring officers? Do they believe these officers all come to work in Ashland so they can hassle the locals and beat up some hobos? You people are absurd. After reading some of these commments I could see why an officer might not want to live or work in this community. I can't wait for Iverson and friend's catty, whiney response. Leo ( [email protected] ) - Ashland - January 11th, 7:20 AM Wow Iverson, you've hit a new low...butt pirates, Hitler and disciples? I repeat myself: sad, so sad. I think Iverson just showed his true color: black for his soul, his humor and his morals. Leo ( [email protected] ) - Ashland - January 11th, 9:16 AM Normal citizens wouldn't be protecting APD like you guys do.Its getting real noticable it's just guessing which one you are. Want really happened to Waylon? Is that how you got Mike to quit. But he has better legs than even the female cops. Incidentts involving 2 young healthy men should be questioned.Unless you have a video you have nogrounds to defend our questions . 2 men dead is enough for citizens to question . You have no defense to tell us diffrntally ann - ashland or - January 11th, 1:27 PM I noticed in the police log there was an assault and robbery and I see nothing else what are they doing about real crime.Hope you guys aren't posting on co. time ann - ashland,or - January 11th, 2:15 PM I noticed in the police log there was an assault and robbery and I see nothing else what are they doing about real crime.Hope you guys aren't posting on co. time ann - ashland,or - January 11th, 2:15 PM Ann, I'm a born and raised Ashlander that doesn't work for nor does any of my family work for the police dept. I am a strong supporter and protector of the APD. I feel that Kevin and Mike and a couple others that are not working anymore were bad hires for APD, it happens. I don't think you know what youre talking about. WE SHOULD BE HAPPY TO HAVE THE OFFICERS THAT WE DO. APD and its officer are the definition of COMMUNITY POLICING. Give it a rest. Lori Munson - Ashland, OR - January 11th, 4:33 PM I'd pay BIG money to tazer Bench Bums/ Professional Cardboard Sign Holders. IF they sold "permits" I'd be first in line. Consider THAT for County funds to keep open the Library..1st, you lure them into range with a warm place to squat,(library) then you super-glue a dollar bill to the side walk, just upwind of your blind,..and then..POW! watch the sparks fly. Oh, gosh, I'm dizzy with anticipation!BTW:Bianca is/was okay w/me. ANYBODY that rubbed against McLennan can't be ALL bad(he's a pr*ck!!!). I've got an idea.. - and don't laugh it off.. - January 11th, 6:42 PM Hey Lori; you 'da bomb, babe, you' da bomb!! We SHOULD be GRATEFUL we have the police that we do and not the police that they WOULD BE if we weren't keeping them in the light!! Yer RIGHT!! Yer RIGHT! Yer ALWAYS RIGHT. I humbly defer to your every opine. Wanna see me in MY shorts :-) Do you realize that the cops you HAD when this was a sleepy town and the cops we got NOW R 2 diff'nt cops?? Barney turned into Ahnoldt when you were whelping. IT's okay, I feeeeel yer pain. Peace Babe, you da bomm Bang a Gong - LoriMusonLand - January 11th, 7:08 PM I thought we were done with this forum and then a friend said that I should go back and read it, Iverson had flipped out. Leo said it best:"Wow Iverson, you've hit a new low...butt pirates, Hitler and disciples? I repeat myself: sad, so sad. I think Iverson just showed his true color: black for his soul, his humor and his morals." You sound just like your buddies "Rafferty" and "Bitchie". Take a vacation, see a movie, you're taking yourself waaaay too seriously and getting way too paranoid. Monkey see nut case - Ashland, OR - January 12th, 9:16 AM Ann, (who writes like the old "Rafferty" & "bitchie"), I don't work for the police department either, and my opinions are strictly my own. I am however, out and about in town and know you cop-haters who think they & their friends are above the law and everyone is out to get them. Perhaps you can join "Iverson's" therapy group for paranoia. Normal citizens wouldn't be constantly bashing APD like you do. I just get tired of your constant yammering and refuse to let you spread lies. Monkey see monkey doo - Ashland, OR - January 12th, 9:33 AM "you and the other Hitler youth bashing Bianca" Really Iverson "Hitler youth"?????? Remember that "Natzi," "Hitler youth," & "neo-natzi" are the favorite insults of Navickas and his followers. So should we start calling you Mik-ick now? Birds of a feather flock together I guess...Mike Bianca, Eric Navickas, Cate Hartzell and the rest of the cop-haters. On a happier note: Lori! Where ya been girl! Your wit always gives me the laugh of my day. Welcome back. Little Chimp - Ashland, OR - January 12th, 11:53 AM The veil is coming off "Steve Iverson" and you are showing your true colors.... Could you be a disgruntled APD ex-employee who never should have been hired in the first place. The good ol' boy who hid under Uncle Mike's protective wing. Nice try guy but wer'e full up with crazy here... Robert - Jefferson - January 12th, 1:15 PM This normal citizens speaks out because she doesn't want to stand by APD methods of handling an overdose, the civil rights of the individuals on the watch lists and the dismissal of a police chief. I don't stick up for the panhandlers ect. I want police to do their job not break the rules. Ann - ashland or - January 12th, 3:34 PM "Ann", In your wildest dreams you're "normal." I see you finally found spell check & capitalization keys (probably not really you). Stop doing dope and you won't have to worry about overdose. Police do their jobs within the rules. It's the "special normal" citizens like you that think the laws shouldn't apply to them and their friends that constantly complain. "Karma always comes back", I'd remember that if I were you. Bonzo - Ashland, OR - January 12th, 8:24 PM Bonzo the overdose was the kid that got tasered and died. I am a mother and I believe the incident shouldn't have ended up the way it did and I don't stand behind somthing like that happening again. So if there is somthing wrong with not wanting kids to die don't slander me for caring. Your message is its wrong to not let the same thing happen again. Its wasn't ok. ann - ashland or - January 13th, 11:01 AM Have police resources been mis-directed at attempts to identify Steve Iverson?Listen to your posts, its amazing how desperate you officers are to identify "Iverson". UTL on Iverson in Ashland. The "Get Iverson" rhetoric around the PD has been exciting to watch.Keep reaching. Hints: I never post to this forum from a city computer,or on city time.I am watching you and if anyone needs to be paranoid,it's you... Leo-APD is not full of uncaring officers, just some key players. You know them well. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 13th, 7:25 PM Officer Robert- You got one thing right,I'll admit; "wer'e full up with crazy here..." Yes, you are.Keep your investigation open, the usual suspects are not working...remember,I'm watching. Now get off the city computer and get back to work please. Lil Chimp - call me whatever you like, the rest of the officers have. Last note- "Peace" Officers,I feel the love from all of you cops posting anonymously. This forum shows exactly what I have been saying about you. Thanks Ann for pointing them out. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 13th, 7:45 PM I never read these but someone told me I should. I find it comical how the loudest cop haters turn out to be the biggest whiners for cops, when they need one. One day Iverson will need a cop and be happy to have my service, and I will provide it for him unbiased like I would for anyone else. People don't like cops because we write you tickets and take you to jail and we know that. We accept it with the job. FYI I haven't written on here before and I'm not afraid to sign my real name like others. Steve MacLennan ( [email protected] ) - Ashland - January 14th, 1:43 PM If you don't believe my posting, talk with Randy Dollinger. He bashed me up and down with all kinds of cop hater angry statements and then he needed a cop. I was there for him and handled his situation, with professionalism and respect. In the end he apoligized for his previous statements about me and we moved on. There will never be a time when everyone likes me, simply because of my job, but I will continue to provide excellent service for this community that I have lived in for over 30 years. Steve MacLennan ( [email protected] ) - Ashland - January 14th, 1:50 PM Its not the question of liking APD it the question of feeling safe. If they were to assist my children would they be safe. Will we get imediate medical attention. Will tasers and for be used as last measures. ann - ashland or - January 15th, 12:44 PM Ann, Are you really that stupid? Or are you just trying to pick a fight? Officer MacLennan, thank you for your post. You and your fellow officers are respected and appreciated way more than you know. Lori Munson - Ashland, OR - January 15th, 3:41 PM Iverson, give it a rest. Some of those in this discussion have admitted their connections with law enforcement. And others of us have also admitted that we don't work there at APD, we're just supporters. And I'm willing to bet that nobody, except for maybe those villagers whose torches you're lighting, think that it's impressive on any level that you have some sneaky position in or near the APD from which you spectate. Whoopty do. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 15th, 4:17 PM And, apparently, you aren't close enough to find out what the APD use of force continuum is, which you've said is important, and you're not close enough to strike up a simple discussion with any of the officers about their use of force. Instead of swimming in your assumptions, Iverson, do the grown up thing and, if you are that close to the PD, climb out of your pool, step foot on the ground of maturity and realize that there may be more to these situations than what you perceive. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 15th, 4:23 PM Congrats Carrie!! I was hoping you'd be protecting me when I got back to Portland, but life takes us all over the world. Ashland is a cool little town, with some great skiing too. Have a blast, and cool to hear you got engaged too. Craig K - California - January 15th, 4:43 PM Steve Mac, if it only it were all that simple. If only people didn't like you as a cop because you write tickets and arrest them. How about how you talk to people? How you treat them. You can arrest and write tickets without being verbally abusive or mistreating people. People understand that your job is enforcing the law. Your history of how you have treated people will be your legacy. Did you have to speak to Dirk like you did when he wouldn't leave the station? You know what I'm saying... Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 15th, 7:26 PM Lori and speer A situation happened and a young adult died. What changes are being made so that doesn't happen again. I don't think honest questions for future calls similiar warrants being called stupid. Just because your supporting APD and I feel the death of any young adult. When my son was in Iraq every death I felt. I don't agree with more kids going over either that doesn't make me stupid.Lets at least try to prevent them dying in Ashland. ann - ashland or - January 15th, 7:27 PM W- Say what you like my friend. It's comforting to know that APD is hearing these comments. Maybe they will learn something. That is the whole intent. To motivate change. To get the officers to reflect on how they have conducted themselves. Maclennan says a friend told him to read it, I'm sure it was fellow officers at APD. Great! Regarding the Force Continum at APD, what version are you speaking about?I have not seen any posted here. Maybe MacLennan can post? The old and the new versions. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 15th, 7:32 PM W-You keep raising the force continuum issue. How about you go to the City of Ashland web site and click on police. Review the PERF Report. Look at what the outside investigators recommended APD do regarding the Taser and their Force Continuum. It's wrong that APD had none of these things in place. After reading it try and tell me APD was following the DPSST force continuum and that we should trust the department to do what's best. That PERF Report also spoke to the kind of officers we have. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 16th, 8:59 AM The issue is not what is the APD force continuum, Iverson, it's that you continually argued that instead of relying on some form of objective standard (the DPSST continuum), we needed to find out what the APD continuum looks like. Well, you're implying you are close to APD - close enough to overhear the discussions in the hallway. Seems to me that if somebody were in that position, they could easily strike up a conversation about topics they'd like to know more about. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 16th, 12:42 PM So, Iverson, you are willing to completely listen to a group of strangers from the other side of the county who profess to have knowledge about law enforcement as they list suggestions to making APD a "better" department, but when it comes to our own law enforcement professionals you wouldn't give them a chance when they decided to list complaints against their chief and sought to change APD to a better department from within? You make no sense, Iverson. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 16th, 12:46 PM W-Your blind following of the APD in any direction it takes you makes having a genuine discussion impossible.Have you read the posted PERF Report? These people are experts in the field. You speak of experts versus citizens making comments here.Read what it says.Scary.In regards to speaking to APD;I have spoken. Many of the nasty ones have left, but the core group remains. You can't have a valid discussion with them either, they know it all."We don't need community policing." That's why I post here. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 16th, 7:08 PM It IS possible, I assume, to issue tickets without a full-on-"GOTCHya" glee on your face, Steve. This is a small valley. People know more than you think, and they remember how they're treated. PERHAPS this is a call, in general, to remind those in blue to be a little LESS mouthy when they're being "professional" and "courteous". You don't ALWAYS have to be such smart-a$$es. Something akin to "insult to injury". Whether you agree with the 'injury' part or not, the insult-part can be nixed. Ouch, THAT HURTS - Ashland - January 16th, 10:03 PM I'd post my name, too Steve, if I was a writers-cramped-ticket-issueing-budd-head on a motor bike, with a Glock. SHEESH! This is kinda scary, Steve. I'd be i.d.'n myself too, if I had more power than you. That's showing off. Low blow. "Confrontational" in flaunting your identity as a police officer while slamming back on this forum. You're throwing your weight around and that's not fair. You don't have jurisdiction in this forum. Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely. Seek counseling, please. Sure, I'd post my name too - ashland - January 16th, 10:10 PM Iverson, again you're wrong. (But that's nothing new.) I have mentioned before at how, while I am a supporter, there are things that APD has done that I certainly don't agree with and there will be things that occur that I don't agree with. Possessing that realistic perspective negates your claim that I am a blind follower. In addition, as I also have said, this is less about supporting APD and more of trying to illuminate your attempts to light torches and gather the villagers for a march. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 17th, 12:36 PM My point was, Iverson, that you are putting your faith in this PERF report. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. But it was done by people who are strangers from across the country whose credibility we are uncertain of. However, when our own police professionals that work at APD, who work in and with this community, brought forth complaints about Bianca and did what they could to make APD better, you were unwilling to give them credit. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 17th, 12:42 PM W-Which way do you want it?When I make comments on APD you say leave it to the professionals. When I cite a professional group who did an in depth study of APD you say they can't be relied on because they are not from here.We should rely on a bunch of Gomers who have never been anywhere but Ashland in their lives.Walsh,Selby,Maclennan to name a few have never had any experience outside of our little Mayberry but they should be glorified for running a good chief out in an effort to better APD? Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 17th, 9:33 PM W- you keep saying I'm wrong but never have a specific example. The APD force continuum was wrong according to the PERF and needed to be changed. As for lighting the villagers torches;good idea.Happy to do it.Sometimes the light from a torch can help expose what nasty little things are hiding in the dark corners.Smoke 'em out I say.Drag them into the light, even if its done with them kicking and screaming, like you. Why is it so hard to accept that there might be a better way?Lets just fix it. Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 17th, 9:41 PM "they should be glorified for running a good chief out in an effort to better APD" Here we go again Bianca, um "Steve". GET OVER IT. The problem with this statement is "good chief". He left because he was going to be fired, with cause. He took the retirement package and skedaddled. You and your arrogant, pompous "I'm saving the city from the police by posting here" are ridiculous & delusional. Yeah, right, you & this forum will save the world (from nothing). Get a life, you're a megalomaniac. Just a peon in Iverson's world - Ashland, OR - January 18th, 8:50 AM DISCLAIMER: I suffer from paranoia & am a compulsive liar. "Paranoia: A psychotic disorder characterized by delusions of persecution with or without grandeur, often strenuously defended with apparent logic and reason. Extreme, irrational distrust of others." Steve L. Iverson - Ashland, Jefferson - January 18th, 9:07 AM There have been incidents that cross fine lines involving APD. They should be addresssed so they are not repeated. What kind of changes are being made to prevent this from happening again. a nn - ashland or - January 18th, 9:22 AM "Steve", First you're a cop hater, now you're a cop and you think you are in "little Mayberry"? Uh oh, time for the mental hospital. Hang on a little longer, I hear they're building one for you in Medford. I hate to break it to you but you're not a cop (anymore), Mayberry was a tv program and posting here is nothing but good clean fun. All your "that's why I post here" justfications are really good for a laugh! Keep them coming! Reality sucks, eh Steve? - Ashland, OR - January 18th, 9:26 AM Iverson, I wasn't saying the PERF report shouldn't be relied on at all. My point was that you are apparently willing to give much credit to PERF report, but none to our own officers when they were trying to make APD a better dept. But you still don't get it Iverson. I've voiced my own disapproval regarding APD before, but at least I'm able to use critical thinking and imaginative understanding when it comes to the topic. You will find ANY reason to protest. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 18th, 12:02 PM Iverson: any reason to protest. And when it comes to those APD officers you mentioned, if they have spent all of their careers in Ashland, guess what?! Then that means that they are professionals who are unique to our community! It just goes to show that they will be more aware and knowledgable about what happens in Ashland and what needs to have happen. Everybody has problems, Iverson. Maybe you should act like an adult and start working with people, not against them when you see a problem. W. Speerage - Ashland, OR - January 18th, 12:05 PM Ann, Your comments are so absurd that
