Lucille Elizabeth Combest Lucille Elizabeth Combest, 88, of Elgin, Ill, formerly of Ashland, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at her daughter's home in Elgin. Lucille was born Oct. 6, 1914 in Whitewater, Wisc. to Thomas W. Elizabeth M. (nee Greiten) McKelvey. She graduated from Maple Park High School in 1933. After high school, she was employed as an auditor for the state of Illinois and the Kane County Treasurer's Office in Geneva, Ill. From 1940 to 1943, she was the postmaster in Maple Park. She then worked for Cutler-Hammer and Midwest Co-op Wholesale in Milwaukee, Wisc. She returned to Illinois after marrying James L. Combest, where she raised her family and returned to work in 1959 for David A. Noyes and Co. in Elgin. She became a registered representative of the New York Stock Exchange in 1962. Lucille was active in many organizations during her time in Elgin, including, Cosmo Pals, National Secretaries Association, Altrusa International, Elgin Symphony League, Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts. She retired after 25 years with David A. Noyes to Ashland. Lucille became active in Ashland in volunteer and recreational programs. The Ashland Emergency Food Bank, Interfaith Care Community of Ashland, Tudor Guild of Southern Oregon, Shakespearean Festival, Rogue Valley Symphony Guild, Rogue Valley Jazz Preservation Club, Oak Knoll Women's Golf Club, "Autumn" Women, Book Club "Extraordinaire", as well as involvement in local theatre, music, reading, travel, friends and family. She was also an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Ashland. She is survived by four daughters, Wendy (Ron) Palmer, Sherry DeRaedt, Kathy Dow and Maureen Combest; three sons, Michael, Kevin and Chad (Camille) Combest; eight grandchildren, Devin and Derek (Christina) DeRaedt, Michelle (Jack) Giuffre, Danielle Palmer, Carna Combest, Chris and Shaun Dow, and Clayton Combest; five great grandchildren, Tyler DeRaedt, Ashley Stewart, Haley and Alex DeRaedt and Chase Carlino; four nephews, Thomas, Bruce, Gary and Neal Dahl; sister-in-law, Dorothy Foote of Chattanooga, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward McKelvey; sister, Irene Dahl; a son, Shaun Combest in infancy; and former husband, James L. Combest. Memorial tributes in Lucille's name may be made to the Lowrie Elementary School Playground Equipment Fund in Elgin or to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 717 Siskiyou Ave., Ashland, Ore. 97520. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 717 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Burial will be private. Carol Ann Kelts Carol Ann Kelts, 61, of Law Vegas, Nev., formerly of Ashland, died on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003 at her residence. Arrangements will be announced by Memory Gardens Mortuary in Medford.
